Spring/Summer Bump Fashion!

With the warmer temps starting around here, I'm really wanting to update my pregnancy wardrobe. Problem is, I'm 5'3"ish and all of the maternity dresses that I have tried on are WAY too long! So I popped into Forever21 today thinking maybe I could find some empire waist stuff, but apparently that isn't really big in style right now. I did find a couple of dresses that I think kinda fit, but I wanted a second opinion before I purchased (Also, I recall Forever21 being a bit cheaper than it is now. I guess I haven't shopped there in ages.) I also really like the idea of a cropped denim jacket, but I'm not sure if it looks odd to have it hit right at mid-bump. Thoughts?

Gauzy Flowy tube dress. I probably wouldn't wear this with the denim jacket, but maybe a cropped cardigan?

Nautical stripe dress, which I love... But maybe it's too tight?

Does this look too short/tight from the back? I work at an Elementary school, so I don't want to look like a pregnant hussy!

Cropped jacket with my own clothes. What do you ladies think of the cropped length?

I wanna see some of your Spring/Summer style ideas! So get to shopping, and snap photos along the way!

Love the cropped jean jacket! And that blue dress looks great! Makes your bump stick out, which is a look that I love when pregnant, lol! Might as well flaunt it while you got it!

The striped dress looks great on you, if you think it's too short for working at the school, maybe wear some black tights under it. Makes it a little more conservative. Btw, you don't even look pregnant from behind! Haha.

Looking great Mama!

thumb.gif Nice duds kitteh! Love the turquoise dress, very faeish dust.gif I love this new thread, gives us some incentive to get dressed up.

I love the short jeans jacket, here's mine. orngbiggrin.gif It's a little longer but then again I DO look preggo from behind so the more cover the better for me.

Wish I could look as cute as you kitteh, most of the time I just feel overweight with a beer belly!orngtongue.gif

I like the jacket and the first dress. The striped dress is a tad short and tight for my taste.

Did you change your hair color Bumkins? I remember it being blonder, but I'm a big fan of strawberry blonde as well! And i know what you mean about *feeling* fat, but you definitely don't look it--I know a beer belly when I see one! wink1.gif

I've never owned a jean jacket, since the acid-washed one I had in the 80s, but I really want one now.

I wanna see more spring looks, I need inspiration (and tips on where to shop!)

Perfect timing! I went shopping today, my sister is getting married in a few days and I finally went out and bought a nice maternity dress (well, actually my mom ended up buying for me, which was really nice). Here's the dress:

And while I was there I couldn't help but to get some shorts while i was there because its supposed to be 80 this week here!

Kitteh I LOVE the blk and white dress !! If it feels too short for work toss some leggings under it. The jacket is great too, the style/length looks great on your small frame

My pics always suck, but here's the ones my mom took of me in the fitting room today, quite unflattering but at least not blurry :-)

OOh, did you get the blue one? I love the knot-front detail! The socks are a nice touch too ;)  And the coral lacey one is a great color on you. Love it all.

It's supposed to be in the 80s here this week as well! Which is odd because it's been chilly and overcast and windy for the past few days, so it's like jumping straight from winter to summer.

I actually didn't get the teal one, I think it looks great in the photo (and my boobs were lovely in it!) but it was a satiny material and had this awkward seam that ran straight down the front over my belly- probably why it was on clearance ;-)

I was going for a springy new look by using Henna to highlight. This was after the first day so it was nearly orange to start with but now it's mellowed out and it really blends in to my natural color. Thanks for noticing thumb.gif

Love the capris and the coral dress shanna-cat

I like the striped dress, Kitteh.  I agree w/ the others - to make it more professional, just use thin leggings, or tall boots if its not too warm.

For some reason I don't like the flowing bump look on me or pregnant women in general.  What I mean is a dress or shirt that drapes over the bump and then leaves a big gaping hang over the rest of the belly.  For some reason I like the tighter look that hugs the entire belly from top to bottom.  I am also going to a wedding in a few weeks and I have a hand-me-down dress to use and its one of the draping empire maternity dresses.  I will wear it b/c it was free but I know I will feel awkward in it the entire time. eyesroll.gif

Haha, I didn't wanna be crass, but I was gonna say your rack looks amazing in the teal! Bummer about the fabric and seam, though.

I've gotten a couple of things from Old Navy and Top Shop maternity and am super happy with them (you can buy top shop maternity online in the US, I think). I'm a fan of the maxi dress with a belt across the top of the bump to define a little bit. I think fitting is better than flowy at this point...I feel/look unpleasantly massive if I wear things that are too big.

Love the nautical stripes Kitteh! I think the cropped jacket looks good. I've been wearing my navy blazer and a cropped black leather jacket over clothes lately and like it a lot.

I agree that fitted is the way to go these days. Dresses that hang from the widest part of the belly make me look positively MASSIVE. I also love belting above the bump, but I don't currently have any belts that work so I use scarves instead. I read somewhere that the long necklaces can work for that purpose too, but I haven't figured out how.

As for me, my clothes are currently a smidge TOO fitted because I keep trying to squeeze this belly into whiter that I've really outgrown, and we have so many upcoming expenses that I'm reluctant to spend much on clothes that will only really fit for the next 6 weeks or so.
