Oisin Lochlan was born at 6.52 am on April 28, 2013. He weighed 7 lbs, 9.3 oz and was 20.5 inches long, with 14.5" head and 13.5" chest.
Saturday night, DS and I went out shopping to get stuff for pizza for family movie night. We got home, and we started making the pizzas, during which I had a few not painful contractions, but had been having them off and on for a couple of weeks, so didn't think anything of it. We started eating and watching Brave, and about halfway through, DS said it was too scary, so he and I went to lay down and watch something else in his bed, while DD and DH kept watching Brave. That was about 10.30. I woke up at ten after 1 with another contraction, and got up to spend some time with DH and work on straightening the living room and kitchen. I kept having contractions, but they weren't painful, and nowhere near regular, so I didn't think anything about it. About 3, DH and I decided to watch a movie. About 5 o'clock, DD got up and wanted me to read her a story, so I started to read to her. About halfway through, I had a contraction that took some concentration, and told DH I was going to try and sleep some, so that if in the morning we needed to go, I'd be rested. DH said, "No, I think it's time for you to go in." I tried again to tell him that I thought it was nothing, and wanted to rest, but he insisted, so while he called to let them know, and see what they said, I started packing what I could think of into the hospital bag. DH took the kids to my mom's, and we left. On the way there, the contractions got to be *very* intense, and I told him I thought I might want to get an epidural after all.
We got checked into the hospital at 6.30. They took me straight to a room and told me to change. They checked me, and said I was at 7 or 8 centimeters, and I asked if I could get an epidural. The anesthesiologist came in, and then left for a minute or two, and when she came back, they said they wanted to check me again, and I was at 9-10, and said they didn't know if I would have time or not. The doctor came in, and when I said I changed my mind and wanted an epidural, he said, "There isn't time for that. You're having a baby now." I was already feeling pushy, so he told me to go ahead. It was nothing like the labor I experienced with DS, when I had pitocin, this was so much more intense and I kept saying, "I don't think I can. I can't do this!" Everyone was so encouraging, and finally, at 6.52, the baby was born. DH asked, "Do you want to know what it is?" I said yes, and he said, "We have another boy!"
I had 3rd degree tearing, which everyone was kind of surprised it wasn't worse, especially considering how fast everything went. We're having some trouble nursing, which I'm sadly not surprised about, as DS1 and DD both had trouble nursing, as well, but I had really hoped that this time might be different. He's nursing a lot, and (when we can latch him correctly) nurses like a champ, but it's been super painful for me, and mentally challenging, as well, trying to figure everything out.
I'm still kind of trying to process how everything happened, it all happened so fast and unexpectedly, and I never thought I could/would go into labor on my own, let alone like this. My milk finally came in this morning, so he has finally slept more than half an hour or an hour, so I'm excited to be able to get a touch of rest myself. :)
Big brother! (And big sister sneaking in, too.)
