Anybody here interested in or have had a water birth? My local hospital has had a nice big tub for two years but they don't let you use it for a water birth--you can just be in it for labor. Some doctors won't even let you get in it after your water breaks. So my husband and I are meeting with a midwife on Tuesday that has done water births at home. Everything I have read about water birth tells me it's something I would really like. When I am upset, sad, sick or even for entertainment (I read in the tub) I go right for a bath. Plus, an extensive study of water birth shows that water births are typically shorter labor, lessened pain and although mothers can still tear, they tear no worse or less worse than traditional births. Fortunately, even though my husband works at the hospital and is currently in school to be a nurse, he is open to having a home birth and is very supportive.
If anyone is interested, I have some great links about water birth, why it's safe, ect.
