For a lot of reasons, mostly amounting to laziness and a hectic schedule, I only have just now gotten a rear-mounted bike seat for my DD to ride in (she just turned 2). It has a little handlebar for her to hold on to. On the short ride home from the bike store, while she freaked a little at first, she calmed down and almost seemed to enjoy it. But a couple of days later I thought I'd take her for a slightly longer (gentle!) ride, and she. was. inconsolable. Kicking her legs so I couldn't get her into the seat. I finally coaxed her in, thinking that if I just walked her around in it she might start to enjoy it, but no. I only walked her about twenty feet and the whole time she was sobbing, saying "No mama! Down! I scared!"
I'm bummed because a)I would like to use my bike for transportation more and it would be nice to not have to carry/walk her everywhere and b)I remember having fun on the back of my mom's bike and had these idealized images of DD and I going for long rides in the beautiful weather. Not to mention the seat cost $$! But she was so upset I don't know if I can even get her back in it.
Anyone else been through this? Did your LO warm up to it?
p.s. If there's somewhereelse I should post this, let me know--I wasn't sure.
