My husband and I are waiting until after 12 or 13 weeks to tell most people but we have told both our parents and most of our siblings. My test is, if it's someone we'd tell no matter what happens, we feel ok telling them now. What I was wondering is, have any of you told people yet and how did you/do you plan to tell them?
My sister who has four children said she didn't tell people in any special way but my husband and I have been having fun with it.
1. My parents. I took the idea from how my grandparents told my dad and his sister (my aunt) that they were expecting when they were 17 and 14. They set an extra place at the table. So we went to a restaurant and asked the hostess to bring us a high chair after we had ordered. My dad took one look and said, "Oh my." But my mom was clueless. She looked at it and looked away. Long pause. Weird look of confusion on her face. She looks back at it. Then, "OH MY!" We were all laughing and getting congratulations from dad and all of a sudden I look over and my mom is bawling, totally lost it. It was great.
2. His parents. We rushed from a church event at their church to get to their house before they did and my husband put a bun in the oven. Just a single hamburger bun in the middle of the oven. Then they got home and we chatted until his dad went into the kitchen. My husband says, "We got you a treat. Go look at what I put in the oven." So his mom starts walking to the oven and husband says, "Dad, you'd better go too." They open the door and look in and his mom says, "You put a bun in the oven?" in a puzzled voice. Then, as she started to get it, "A BUN in the oven!!??!!" And his dad said, "What, WHAT?" It took him a few second longer then hugs all around. We all laughed and laughed, everybody's faces were bright red.
The fun part of all this is that it took us more than 8 years of marriage to finally get to this point in our lives, being ready for a baby. (Mostly.) So NOBODY was expecting this announcement from US.
How have you told people or how do you plan to do it? Anything special?
