Our home is 3400 square feet. One room downstairs and all but the bathrooms upstairs are carpeted. The carpet is at least ten years old, and it shows it.
We want to move, but don't know how soon we can pull off moving. Either way, this carpet must be replaced. It reeks of cat and yorkie urine on the stair landing and in the room downstairs.
I am super concerned about the toxicity of carpet and carpet cleaners. Bamboo will not work in this house at all, because most of the downstairs is engineered dark pecan style wood in a style that has been discontinued.
Half way decent carpet will cost less than 1.50 dollars a foot installed including pad. I am concerned because it may take months before we can move, and most of the off gassing occurs during the first few months.
Are there any less toxic alternatives that are conventional enough that we can still put our house on the market?
