I just relocated from NYC to PA. However, when I was in NY I was working with Gary Krasner from the Coalition for Informed Choice. As you probably have discovered, obtaining an exemption in NYC is very difficult. His organization helps with the process. CFIC is an organization that is lobbying hard to change the laws in NYC in favor of parents' right to choose to vaccinate or not. Gary provided me with tons of information for this process of obtaining the exemption, for free. If you still require more information or help with obtaining the exemption, you can retain Gary's services for $100. I highly recommend reaching out to him. Obtaining the exemption is a lengthy and extensive process. Gary and his organization have worked with many individuals who have been granted the exemption and would be able to guide you well.
I know it sounds like I have some sort of vested interest or know him, but I really don't. I just know that I learned a tremendous amount of good tips from him and info on the laws, that I otherwise would not have known on my own.
Hi, I have also contacted Gary about exemptions in NYC. He wants me to join his organization first which makes me question it a little bit. Should I be concerned about joining his coalition? I read some bad stuff about Patricia Finn on the internet.
Angel Mama, I also live in Brooklyn. Were you able to get the exemption for kindergarten? I will be going through this process soon. What was your experience?
I also live in NYC and looking for the info. I would like my child to go to the preschool soon, but afraid we will face rejection because we are not vaccinating.
Could someone, please, explain the application process to the preschool these days. There are not too many seats to begin with, but when do you need to tell them that you are not vaccinating? I am afraid, once they know it, they might refuse the kid and take the vaccinated one instead. Given how polarized the matter is, nobody wants to take the risk and a stink from the rest of the parents, if they find out..
so how far in the application process, the issue of vaccinations comes up?
Your best bet is not to mention a thing about the vaccinations because you are just risking them never 'finding' a space for you. Just wait till you are in (and submitted a deposit) before handing the exemption.
