BC doctors concerned about unnecessary c-sections

My mother, who lives in Vancouver, said she saw on the news the other day that doctors here are getting concerned with unnecessary c-sections and wanting to crack down on it. I thought this would be reassuring in light of other recently posted articles. vancouver is a pretty forward-thinking place - we have the only milk bank in canada!

My sister just had a baby back in November, and had a terrible labor & delivery. First off she was induced for insane reasons, and then quite quickly given a c-section. Totally unessesary. And all dr's at the hospital & her own dr's have told her that she can only give birth through c/s for future births. Until I talked to her she'd never even heard of VBAC.

However she is in Victoria and gave birth at VGH.

I was with her 3 days after her son was born and have never been more discusted with a hospital & medical team then when I was up there. You couldn't pay me to have a baby there.

The boston globe recently had an article on this too. Most doctors try to talk women out of scheduled C-sections, but some will just do what the patient wants without even talking with them to find out WHY they want a C-section.

I am all for C-sections for medical concerns and if the baby/and or mother are in danger. I worry about those who just schedule them for convienence.

I'm happy to say that my OB in Boston tried very hard to convince me not to schedule a C-section, but to "wait and see" instead. Honestly, if she had just said yes on my first request, I think I would have left, lol.
