Heartbeat....? - Page 2

Thanks for the ultrasound pic compliments :)  The tech was awesome and spent a lot of time with me.  She was so apologetic they can't print polaroid type pictures so she printed some for me on xray film and then I took that one of the screen with my phone.

I have a home doppler but rarely use it.  DH got it for me for my bday when I was pregnant with my 1st.  I used it a few times then because I wasn't sure I felt movement for a long time.

With my 3rd baby it really came it handy though.  The night before I was going to be induced (water broken, no contractions) I woke up at 3am and she wasn't moving.  At all.  I poked and poked, changed positions, etc.  She still wouldn't move.  If I didn't have the doppler and the ability to hear her heartbeat we would've been off to the ER.  I was panicking before we found her heartbeat with the doppler.  I think baby just knew she had a big day ahead and was sound asleep but I nearly had a heart attack.

We saw the heartbeat last night, 154bpm. The surprise was that they dated me a week later than I thought, which puts me into January. I can see the possibility on my chart, I think they are right.

I had a home Doppler with my first. After two known losses and 6 yrs of "infertility" I was a mess. I used it sparingly, but it certainly saved me some calls and trips to the midwife/hospital. I still have it, but can't remember where I stored it. Back then I was less fluffy... I heard baby's heartbeat, on my own, by 11.5 weeks... Weeks before most people feel any movement or can do kick counts.

LOVING everyone's stories and pics!!!  luxlove.gif

michelleepotter - that is CRAZY about them CHARTING *your* HB!!!!  Unreal!  And didn't they think it odd that it was so low???

My own doppler .... I saw one come up - used, on a FB swap page I'm on. I can't do it. Like so many others here - I would have to LIMIT myself to some crazy "only morning, noon, and night" routine!  And three times a day is just INSANE.  So - I am better off without one too!  ;)

Yes, dinahx, dopplers are not just like ultrasound, they are ultrasound.  Dopplers are actually more concentrated ultrasound than using an ultrasound machine.  Midwives here don't even use dopplers in pregnancy, only for births, and just wait until they can hear with a fetoscope.

I'm on the fence about that! It's pretty miserable being the last one pregnant in a group. I don't know.... Any more thoughts?

Rachael, no, not a single person said a word to me about the heart rate being so low until the OB nurse came down. It scared me to realize that the people charged with monitoring my baby’s health had no idea what they were doing. If there had been a problem, they wouldn't have caught it! Of course, that whole hospital stay was a nightmare. I ended up checking out AMA, and I felt like I was running for my life. Suffice to say, I never went back to that hospital. (Luckily there are lots of options where I live!)

Ophelia, some people post in more than one DDC, so that's an option. Plus, you probably won't be the only one here who doesn't go until January. (And some in the January DDC will probably go in December.) I say, post wherever you are comfortable, but you are definitely welcome here!

That is CRAZY about the heartbeat.  And medical people *WONDER* why "those crazy women" are so suspicious about MEDICAL PEOPLE!!!!  I mean - this was Pregnancy 101 stuff!

Ophelia - I agree with what was said above by Michelleepotter!

And you are such a strong foundation of this board, I am happy to speak for most of us ... ;) .... in saying - we'd LOVE to have you stay!

This is where you started after all - and part of our main group of women.  And as said above -- WHO KNOWS when you will really have the baby???  U/s is not a perfect science... and women can go "early" or "late."  My last baby was due May 1.  And he did not arrive until the 12th!! My first baby I had EARLY... so who knows???

I say - an early Jan date, is close enough for me that you fit right in here!  (Plus, again - we know you here! :)

As far as being "last" -- who knows (not trying to jinx anyone!! ;) -- we could have a mom due on Christmas have her baby AFTER you!

Or - as was suggested - you can be part of both boards.  Whatever works for you.  But personally, I hope you continue on here!

I heard the heartbeat today! 9 weeks 1 day, 170bmp.

I got to hear the heartbeat today (12 weeks yesterday)! It was in the 150s, she said.  It really makes it feel more real!

Yay for hearing l'il heartbeats, crazykittymomma and missbreajoy.gif

We tried to hear the heartbeat today.  I'm just shy of 11 weeks.  No luck!  I understand it's iffy at this point and depends on baby's position being agreeable.  I went to a midwife friend's house, with all our kids and everything.  So darn!  We'll try again in a week or so.  My husband won't be at my appointment with my doctor at the end of the month, and I won't see her again until 28 weeks so I want him to hear the little heartbeat!

I go today to hear the heartbeat - got my fingers crossed that he finds it! Since the second trimester started I've been feeling much less pregnant (much less nauseous, anyway) and could use some reassurance.
I heard the heartbeat at my friend's house (she's a midwife) at 11 weeks, but she had to try for 30 minutes! It's really touch and go at that point!

We are all going to feel sooo much better when we feel REGULAR movement!  This hit or miss hb being able to be heard at this stage - so hard!  I feel BLESSED now, having read your posts, that I got to see it at 6w then hear it at 10w.  But the anxiety only subsides for so long, right?  Now it's been over 3 weeks since I last heard it. Cannot wait to see the midwife in 6 days from now at my 14w visit!  We are all starting to turn the "safe zone" corner too - so that will help too!  Once I hear that 14w hb, I know I will relax a lot.  But then... there is 15&1/2w bloodwork and the level II u/s around 18 weeks to go through.... after that detectable movement should be happening often... Can't wait for 20 weeks!  Only about 6 weeks to go!!  (LOL - I feel like, am I EVER just happy and NOT nervous??!  ;)

Yeah, Rachael, regular movement will be so nice. I still haven't felt any, but I never do this early. I can't wait for the part where every little movement is obvious, and I can feel her flipping and turning around. smile.gif
