Finding clients with a 3-month-old

Hey WAHMs - I have a conundrum. Before getting pregnant, I was a freelance admin/marketing assistant for small businesses and solopreneurs. I got my clients by doing local business networking. I quit while pregnant, and we moved across country to a large city where I don't know any business people (pretty much all of our friends are military like us).

Now that LO is starting to nap more reliably, I'd like to get back into it - but with a limited childcare budget and the husband away, I don't see myself being able to go to any local networking events to meet potential clients. eLance and the like leave me cold, as there are always tons of ads for similar services to mine at sweatshop prices (never mind the hell you go through trusting your business correspondence to one of those firms). I much prefer for clients to get to know me, or get referred to me. Back in VA, I accomplished this by the networking, volunteering, etc.

So how can I do that now that I'm stuck at home, or have to take my 3 month old with me everywhere? Any experiences of yours/ideas are appreciated! I know there's a way...

Any work at home mamas out there for advice?

I may be missing something but this is remote work correct? Why not work for the same clients you did previously in your old city? Is there any particular reason you need clients in your city?

I have a virtual assistant organization in need of marketing and some admin if you are still in this situation
