I love this idea! I understand making the event special for the siblings so that they feel like they're not being overlooked, but the idea of buying gifts doesn't appeal to me. The baby is the gift! But a birthday cake makes perfect sense and the kids will be totally excited to celebrate with cake, balloons, banner, etc. Now I just have to figure out how to bake this cake hours after birthing a baby. Perhaps store-bought will suffice on this occasion. ;) DH can come home from the birth centre to decorate with the kids, pick up a cake, and then bring them to collect baby and me from the birth centre. Or grandma, who will be babysitting, can help them decorate, which will help them pass the time until I'm discharged 4-6 hours after the birth.
