Columbus OH homebirth mamas (and papas)

We are expecting our first in September (it's a boy!) and planning for a home birth here in Columbus, OH. We have great midwives and tons of resources but I'd love to meet other moms/couples who have either had a home birth already or are preparing for their first like us! I don't have a lot of fears or questions but my partner is quite nervous! We'd both really benefit from meeting other home birth parents in town.

Hi, mama! Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy.  I have some thoughts on how to find your fellow HB families in your area.  First, we have a "Finding Your Tribe" forum here at MDC and you can post there to try to find folks.  Also, have you asked your MW if she has a meet-and-greet sort of thing?  Or, (if you have "office" visits") perhaps try to befriend families before and after.  Or, maybe your MW will offer to give your email of phone number with some other families close to your due date, which would bonus as finding some playdates for your future toddler. Good luck!

Thanks for your advice! I did post in the Ohio tribe area before posting here but got no responses, so someone suggested I try here instead. Our midwives will be hooking us up with a few other couples but I would also like to meet others! We have plenty of other friends with young kids, including some who are due within a few months of us, but would really most like to find others who have already "survived" the home birth experience, especially to help allay my partner's concerns! I'm pretty surprised that I haven't heard from anyone else on MDC.

I had an amazing deal of success meeting IRL friends on MDC back when I joined but I do think some of the IRL meet up stuff has moved to other online sites like Facebook. Have you tried doing a more general search for like-minded friends - code words like: "natural parenting" "attachment parenting" "baby wearing" "breastfeeding" and etc? Of course these things don't guarantee that the members will be HB families but the chances are pretty good. The "crunchiest" group I've met in my area have been the babywearing group.

Also, if you're looking to meet locals, consider putting your location on our profile. As you post, you may have people reach out to you because you live in the same city. I know I will often PM members from my city when I see we have something in common or if they need some help that can be provided locally.

I just recently moved to the Columbus area. I WAS due in December but no longer am. Hopefully next year :) I have not had a home birth here in Ohio but I had one in AL 19 months ago. Mine was unassisted due to midwifery laws but we did "survive"! lol. I found a support group at a local midwives clinic that meets once a week. I am going to start going, if you would be interested I can share the information.
