8 week Healthy Weight Loss Challenge version 9.0 (enrolling through May 30, starts May 27)

Words of wisdom from Milk8shake (with minor modifications):

The version 1 thru version 8 eight week challenges were a great success, and many of us are up for another eight weeks - we're opening it up for any newbies who would like to join the next round of the challenge. Please read below.

 Background:

The thought came to my head because I joined the "losing weight in 2012" thread, but I didn't have much motivation, and I had no-one to be accountable to. I was thinking about the Biggest Loser, and how teams can be such a motivation. So, I thought I would throw this out there for anyone who needs to get some weight loss happening, but just can't seem to get off the couch.

The challenge:

Commit to an eight week weight loss challenge. You'll be assigned to a team, and your weight loss percentage will be measured on an individual and a team basis. The team with the highest loss percentage at the end of the eight weeks will be the winner. This is a TEAM effort. If you lose, your team wins! Your weekly progress will be updated on the leader board for all to see.

The requirements/rules:

  1. You have to be willing to commit to the full eight weeks beginning May 27, 2013 and ending July 15, 2013.
  2. You have to be willing to commit to exercising a minimum of 4 x 30 minute sessions per week - the type of exercise is up to you!
  3. You have to be willing to check in and update your progress and weight at least weekly on Mondays.
  4. You have to be willing to share your weight and your height. (By PM if you are shy)
  5. You may not join if losing 1 lb / .5 kg per week will put you in an underweight category according to your BMI (check here) at the end of eight weeks.
  6. If you miss more than 2 weigh-ins, we will continue to track, but your loss will NOT contribute to your team's totals.

The prize:

A thinner waistline, a slimmer derriere, and the opportunity to bask in the glory of the winning team.

The challenge will not start until Monday, May 27, 2013. Sign up now to let us know you are interested so I can begin making teams.

Count me in.  This has been enormously helpful to have the weigh-in to look forward to.  Hopefully I can up the exercise this round and keep the losses going!

Great. Looks like we have a good start to a new challenge. Slow and steady wins the race and with weight loss often keeps it off longer.

herbal shakti, welcome, this is a great group to get involved with. I hope you find success in weight loss with us.

I'm in. Not giving up. The doctor cleared me to skate, but my physical therapist wants me skate in a controlled environment. So off ice, on a slide board. I was going to start that today, then my ankle swelled while doing balance exercises. She wants to wait til next week to start. The good news is I'll be able to walk every day. smile.gif

please, count me in again

congrats on your 10 week pregnancy ! wishing you the best in that department

have spent the night at the hospital, DD2 will probably have an appendicectomy today (= hours in the emergency department took care of my dinner, i wasn't hungry anyway when she was anxious and not allowed to eat !!!)

have been back home for 2 hours to give instructions for the day to DD1 and DS & am about to go back to the hospital on foot (30 min fast walk)  having made a healthy lunch to take with me and having had a healthy breakfast

(...so, the thought of having a weigh in on Monday will keep me away from the vending machine at the hospital !!!!!!!!)

IsaFrench, I hope all goes well with your daughter's surgery.  Glad you have the incentive to stay away from the mindless junk food that the hospital supplies and you're smart to take along your own lunch.

Amanda, I hope things will improve over the next week. I know last year I sprained my ankle and there are still times where it gives me fits of pain.  I can't even imagine having broken a bone.  Each step is a step closer to recovery and walking is a good exercise to keep you going forward.

So my goal weight for this challenge is 220. I finished the last one at 233 and thanks to stress eating I'm up to 236 today. I hope to get back to 233 by Monday.

thanks for your good wishes, it ended up being a false alert, probably some sort of viral inflamation of the intestines, we waited ages to get to be seen for the sonogram & she wasn't allowed to eat nor drink but on the other hand, that hospital has a fabulous play room & the lady presenty running it .... used to run a playgroup i attended 14 years ago (one drawback though is that i came face to face with DD1 first kindegarten teacher, -when she was three- who now is retired and volunteers to play with the children early evenings once a week ...i don't think this lady has the "right" tone of voice//attitude for any age of children, didn't think it then & still don't think it now ....)

we were allowed to leave after 24 hours ... i was just a bit surprised by the pediatrician ... probably he was overworked but ... he didn't seem to have planned to give us his diagnosis, was just intent on dismissing us .... i was not going to leave until i had written down legibly what he had to say about what he thought the problem was ....

I would like to join too.  :)  Currently 144--hoping to lose 10 lbs before TTC later this summer.

I will join again. Thought about it for awhile and I think these challenges keeps me off the junk food, and makes me think more of what things will make me lose weight and what doesn't work. I am certainly plateauing at the moment. I just need to get over that little hump and I will be on my goal of 125. Plus, ahem, I got a boudoir photoshoot on the second week of June and I want to look fit for that. nod.gif

Count me in again. I will get my weight to you closer to start date. Hoping I will lose more by then.

The plateau is a hard place to be!  I'm at that place as well.  And what a motivation!  Sexy lady.... thumb.gif

ahem, lost 2 pounds since this morning? Is that possible? My mom who's quite heavy has been here a few days and weighing herself, did she break it or I'm just losing?

Well I'm seeing the (high) 170s for the first time in years!!!!!!!!!

I've been good exercising and eating, hopefully I'm just losing!!!

I'd like to join again please and thanks!

I'm definitely  in... My  goal  of  150 pounds  is  just  around  the  corner... Hopefully  by  June  21st  the first day of summer   I   will  be  at   150 lbs.  That  would  be  a  weight  loss  of  59  pounds in all ... Than I can set my new goal... Excited for these next few weeks...
