A Chance to Ask a Midwife and Naturopathic Physician Your Questions!

Thread Starter

If you could ask a Midwife and Naturopathic Physician a question, what would it be?

Maybe something about pregnancy and birth, your child's health or a natural remedy?

Cathy Carlson-Rink, ND, RM--the first Naturopathic Physician also practicing as a Midwife in Canada--will be answering our questions next week in a special interview.

Post your questions here and we'll include them in our interview!

My son had 2 pentacels, 1 DTaP, 1 Hib, 1 prevnar by the time he was 14 months old. He is now 21 months old. After extensive vaccine research, I am considering waiting a year before giving him a few more or possibly nothing at all. What is the consequence of not giving the rest of the vaccine series? (Ex: Only having 3 DTaP out of 5)

Can I use plain xylitol and water to 'brush' my babes teeth instead of the commercial tooth gel for babies?

Are there any extra risks or things I should be extra cautious of pre/birth/postpartum as a mom to five?

What is a normal sleeping temperature for a 21 month old?

I just realized my toddler's vitamins have polysorbate 80. I want to discontinue. Which vitamins are recommended for a 21 month old? Also since he was 6 months old I have been giving him 1 ml of the tri vi sol vitamin, can ingesting this polysorbate be harmful?

My 21 month old drinks 5 ounces of milk and 16-20 ounces of water within an hour before bed time. Is that too much water? He consistently does this every night. Could it be diabetes? What are other signs of diabetes? His CBC blood results came back fine last month.

My platelet levels are inexplicably low.  They are low to begin with (117 when tested before this pregnancy) and then drop lower during pregnancy.  With my son they got down to 72 and with this little one at around 28 weeks they're down to the mid-80s at last check even though they jumped to 125 at 12 weeks.

Without any known cause, it makes it hard to treat it.  Both my midwife and doctor are kind of scratching their heads.  I was able to use a homebirth midwife the last time, with a shot of methergine to slow the bleeding down, but we think the blood loss affected my milk supply early on.  This time around I'm doing red raspberry leaf tea and various supplements like alfalfa and a B-12 complex.  Because of my most recent numbers, I was going to add liquid chlorophyll and maybe sub-lingual folate based on some anecdotal evidence, but it's hard to find good information.  Is there anything else we should be looking into?

Sorry for the length of my question.  redface.gif
