Ipad as medical device?

Our daughter's speech therapist uses an Ipad with her during therapy. Although she doesn't see a therapist for fine motor skills, she appears to have a delay there as well.

If i were to get her an Ipad for those issues could I use my HSA (pre-tax medical) funds to buy one? I am certain her speech therapist and pediatrician would both recommend we get an Ipad for her therapy.

I am not confident but I think it's possible, you could certainly at least get an education discount through Apple.

Here's a link for ya: http://store.apple.com/us-hed/findyourschool

They are very relaxed about it. I would just ask your provider what documentation they require for it to be covered, sometimes going about it while assuming a positive result works wonders. smile.gif

I called our insurance company. They said if our daughter's speech therapist can prove medical necessity it would be considered a covered piece of medical equipment. Our therapist is on vacation but I will ask her to submit this when she returns. If that doesn't work I will follow up on your education link. I looked at it. We'll see what happens. Thanks.

Good luck! Let me know how it works out. I think iPads are a learning necessity for everyone :P
