Playing with Potty

I keep a potty in my kitchen, but my LO really likes to play with it. I don't feel comfortable with this, especially since he puts everything in his mouth. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there any way to discourage it?

I should add that he doesn't yet understand what 'no' means. Even though I keep saying it, it doesn't make a difference.

How old is he? Around 7 months my guy was really into the potty. I would either make sure it was clean after each use or keep it out of reach.

Redirection may be more useful than no at this age (any age).

He's 11 1/2 months. Unfortunately, I didn't have the potty earlier, so he didn't really get use to it. I've been having it up on the counter, but I'd rather have it on the floor so if he wants to indicate he has to go by sitting on/near it, he can. I think I'll have to go and super clean it more often instead. Thanks :)
