healing and preparing for sex after birth

Hi there,

Just had baby #2 and this time I would really like to have sex sooner than after baby #1 AND have it not hurt so much!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for helping the healing (I had a few small-medium tears, stitches, lots of swelling) and for making the first few times not be so awfully painful.

A friend recommend vitamin E suppositories, so I've got those now. Obviously, lube is essential. Is there anything else I can do to make things heal better/faster and to make sex less painful? I'm actually dreading it this time because of my experience last time, but wanting to be proactive.

Thanks!

See your doctor. There is low does estrogen cream that works like a miracle. Sometime the larger tears heal but it is the micro tears that cause pain. and cream works for it.

I had heard lots of horror stories, but after my first (I had one small tear, completely internal), I found myself ready for romance just a few days before the suggested wait. DH and I decided to go ahead and give it a try, since I was DEFINITELY in the mood, and we both figured that that was my body's way of saying it was A-OK. I'd simply suggest letting it come as it will (which I know, can be challenging with an infant) to take your time and be certain that you are ready for it. Avoid worry as much as you can about your previous unpleasant experience, as this will tend to make it more likely to recur.
