I am currently looking at houses and properties to buy. I came across one recently tht has a pond I would want to fill in if I got it and I am wondering if anyone has had any experience filling in a pond and turning it into useable area.
I looked online and could find almost nothing on this.
I am not interested in hearing reasons for keeping the pond, I am more looking for practical experiences if it can really be done and methods and costs.
I will be looking into it IRL with people but am just curious right now so wanted to see if anyone has done this.
The yard is not that big and I don't like ponds at all- I would never swim in it and for many reasons I don't want to live near one. If I could turn the pond into yard the yard would be just big enough for me.
I still have to look more closely at it and will be seeing it next week (and the house more closely).
I know I will have to find out first if I need a permit.
If I am permitted then I would have someone drain it, and I guess divert a spring if there is one,.
And then we would backfill it with hardrock matter, rocks, sand I gues? clay- whatever0 util we got to the top level which we would put dirt.
Can I get it to be dry and a useable space?
Do you know anyone who has done this?
I was trying to estimate the size but amnot sure- possible 50 ft by 100 ft?
and all I know about it is that it was man- dug, and possibly has a spring feeding it.
