I need your help

As a non-vaxxer, I've been asked to produce an article about the dangers of vaccines for a local parenting magazine — or rather, half an article, really. Someone else is writing a portion about the risks of not vaccinating, so this is going to be really interesting.

I'm asking for your help, because I don't have a lot of time (a few days to a week) to complete the article and it's been a while since I've looked at vaccine stuff. The article focuses on measles because of the recent outbreak in Swansea and the growing number of parents refusing the MMR vaccine in this country (Eastern Europe). I will go into other "VPDs" as well.

Could you help with links, or personal stories about your experience with measles? The other person will, I'm sure, choose traditional arguments in favor of vaccines — herd immunity, VPDs can have serious complications in a minority of cases, etc. They'll also probably write about Wakefield being a fraud. I need:

  • Info on how you have managed measles in your home.
  • Links showing the number and type of adverse reactions to vaccines, including the MMR, definitely not focused on autism.
  • Anything else you really like ;)
  • Do you have any really pro-vaccine articles that are well-written? I'd like to see them so I can work on presenting the other side.

Thanks very much!

I'd suggest getting a copy of Vaccine Epidemic as a reference. It's a very well written and researched compilation of articles by a variety of authors, and extremely informative. It includes some personal narratives by victims of adverse reactions (and parents of victims), as well. Good luck writing your article!

This website - The International Medical Council on Vaccination, has tons of great articles.  This site is comprised of various articles from the international medical community (not just a random blogger), so is pretty reputable.  Here are two on Measles, just from a quick glance:

Good luck with your search!  The information you are looking for is out there, but I know sometimes not too easy to sort through all the propaganda.

Oh, and if someone here suffered an adverse reaction to a vaccine or has a child who did so, then I'd love to hear from you.

At one year of age my first son was speaking, using about 5-7 words.  After he received the MMR at 15 mos he lost all language, in addition to being physically ill.  He did not speak again until almost 3 years old.  I realize that people have had much worse reactions...however this was a wakeup call for us and we have been a vax free family ever since.  I am grateful that I woke up before something much more severe happened.

I am so sorry! Is your son OK now, or did he suffer long-term damage? Did you report the reaction?
