Bedwetting: What to try first?

This summer, we want to address DS's nighttime peeing.  He is almost 8 and has never had a dry night.  I'm looking for a book or program or checklist of things to try, foods to remove, etc.  Can anyone with experience recommend a systematic way to explore this?  I don't know where to start.  Thanks in advance!

no advice, just saying that I'm in the same situation. My son was 8 in february, and there have been a few sporadic dry nights, but never consecutive. For now, I'm continuing to purchase goodnights, as I don't really see an alternative. I might be willing to try an alarm, but I think I'd have to put  him in his own room so the whole house doesn't get fragmented sleep.

I'll be watching for ideas, so far the only thing I've had from professionals has been "have you got a waterproof sheet?" Errm yes, he wets through his pyjama pants 3 or 4 times a week. I have LOTS of waterproof sheets!

 

I found the info sheets here quite interesting.

 

The alarms do seem to be a popular option, I've seen ones which vibrate which might be useful if there are other people in the room too.

My son is 8 and not dry at night. We did try once and he managed 10 dry nights, but he had a relapse after I had a break up and we moved house. Now he seems unable to be dry. I know it doesn't really answer your question, but in case it's helpful, I've just decided not to worry about it. There are nappies (diapers) going up to age 15 in regular supermarkets for a reason - enough people need them!  From what I can gather, people try all sorts of things and just end up worn out and frustrated by bed changing, while the child feels like a failure. While he needs them, I'll keep him in Huggies!

 

Is it you or your son who wants him to be dry at night? If the impetus is coming from him I can see why you would address it, but if it's coming from you, it might be worth asking yourself exactly what your reasons are for feeling he needs to be dry at night.
