What did you do today to get ready for your upcoming move (in the far or near future)? - Page 3

I just listed 5 things for sale... feels so good.  I really don't want to bring anything with us that I don't love/isn't useful or beautiful!  Already my home is looking so much nicer and decluttered.  We're planning on downsizing, so why not do it now even though we still have the square footage?!

Hey, you still made progress. Cut yourself a break. You weren't ready to just let these things go now, but you might be later, either by giving away or trying to sell them yourself if you have time. So, good job on getting rid of all the other ones! :)

Exactly. You'll get to enjoy your place more in its new decluttered stage. The other day I was looking around the garage and thinking 'Why didn't I do this purge much earlier? I could've enjoyed a less cluttered garage all this time and not have felt so stressed about it every time I looked at it!'

Best of luck to you! I am finally done with my last ebay listings and I think I will take a long long break for now. I've been at it for the last year; I think I will stick with just donating at the other end of the move. Still waiting to get paid for three auctions, looks like they might back out :(

Travelling the country in an Airstream sounds great! My ultimate goal is to have no more posesions than I could comfortably fit in an RV.

I hope this can be resolved soon, I don't blame you for hating being in limbo. Nothing stresses me more than not knowing what the plan is or having to wait for x to happen before you know if y or z is the next step.

Two of the items I've decided to keep long term.  I was a little too ruthless when I purged.  Four items went onto Craigslist for free today and I also sold two items on Craiglist today!

Lately I haven't been doing much, just little things here and there, like:

  • mailed some of the stuff I sold on ebay
  • packed just a few more things from the kitchen
  • had my daughter pack her clothes and some other things from her room (kept her company for a while during it)
  • found a buyer for the fridge and arranged to have it picked up the day before our move --I sure hope they don't flake out!
  • cooked every day using things from the freezer and pantry
  • loaded up the car with some stuff for the thrift store, to be dropped off tomorrow
  • found out I have to sell the washer and dryer and took pictures of them
  • labeled some boxes I have packed previously

Friday I need to list the washer and dryer on Craigslist, buy some bubble wrap so I can pack more things from the kitchen, find the right light bulbs for one of the vanities, file a big tower of papers.

Oh, my word. I desperately want to swear right now, but I won't. The bank called, and we have a closing date!! Yay! It just so happens to be TODAY. Why would they do that? Thanks for the heads up, I'll get packing!!! I got more boxes and did the living room at nap time. We're undecided if we're going to go ahead and move this weekend or wait until next weekend. At least we have the condo until the end of the month.  Oy. dizzy.gif

You are on a roll! I feel inspired to go find some more things to add the the Goodwill load I will drop off tomorrow morning. See you in a bit! :-)

Wow! huh.gif Can they even do that? Well, lots of luck with everything! It's gonna be a bit hectic for a while there. I am at that stage where I am tempted to start running around panicking. uhoh3.gif

I did list put the washer and dryer up for sale and found a buyer. They will pick them up on Thursday - again, I hope they are serious and don't change their minds.

I went to Walmart to get bubble wrap and they were out of the small bubble ones :-( but I did buy the light bulbs for the vanity (I better check that they fit right).

Did not have a chance to file the papers, but I did pull out about 50 items from the kitchen cabinets and put them in the donation pile. I also made another meal using several things from the fridge and pantry.

I have packed two large boxes with clothes from my closet and there is still so much more in there. I am having the hardest time getting rid of anything.

Got payed for two ebay auctions, so I wrapped them up and I will mail them out tomorrow when I take the donations out.

Painted the entire basement (technically the master bedroom). By myself. 5 months pregnant (low odor formula and all windows open). My partner is out of town and I want the house listed on Monday. The basement had to be done. Cleaning and staging tomorrow for pictures. Real estate agent (my mom) wants the garage cleaned out completely (all boxes and furniture) so it looks better for showings. I don't want to pay for storage. Do you guys really think an empty garage will help sell our house? I mean, people know we're moving, you gotta put the boxes somewhere. The rest of the house is de-cluttered, staged, and clean with new paint throughout and new carpet. This is the last thing I'm fighting her on.

Apparently, they can! We decided to go ahead and move this weekend. om.gif

I get to take a break at my mother's house while the toddler naps :) Everyone else is working at the old house or the new house. I hope to get settled in enough that my daycare girls can come on Monday. Ah! faint.gif

Wow, you rock! I don't think I would be brave enough to attempt painting solo before a move...and you are pregnant on top of it!

If it was me, I would not be influenced by the fact that the garage is not empty. If the house is clean and decluttered, that's all that matters in my opinion. And if I was on the selling end, there is no way I would bother with moving stuff into storage only to have to move it again later on (or be tempted to keep it there indefinitely, until finding the time to deal with the stuff appropriately). Not to mention the extra expense...so,no I wouldn't bother emptying the garage, in your place. Good luck!

Best wishes for a smooth move! It's good you are going for it now, no point postponing the inevitable. thumb.gif

  • Dropped off donations to Goodwill
  • Went to Post Office and mailed two things
  • Worked on organizing all the utilities web sites and passwords
  • Emailed my RE to try and figure out how my FET cycle is going to work, if I will be better off leaving my car here and flying back for the monitoring . Still no decision
  • Labeled some boxes I have previously packed
  • Finally managed to file all the papers

And that's about all I managed today, sadly. I had such grand plans too...winky.gif

We are facing a move as well, but we don't know exactly when.  DH's company has said they are closing down the office here and he WILL be transferring, we just have no idea when that will be.  Most likely, the time frame is next spring some time.  So, we have plenty of time, but that information was what actually got me decluttering to start with.  I started to view all of our things in a new light.  Do I REALLY want to move this across the county?  And then I got pretty ruthless.  We are still finding things we don't need, though.  I am not actually packing things up or anything, but still keeping the move in my head when decluttering and also when purchasing.  It helps a lot.

Moving as soon as our house sells. Err, as soon as we can get the house ready to even list. DH has been commuting on the weekends (4 hour drive each way) for over a month now and I'm so ready for this to be over.

I have to paint a wall and continue to pack... and clean!!! But I got hit with a tummy bug (on top of being 10 wks pg) this weekend so I don't imagine I'll get much done for a few days.

It is a great new way of looking at things, isn't it? You are off to a great start with the decluttering and bringing less stuff in. When the time comes to actually do the packing, it should be a breeze since everything left will be the stuff you will want to take with you. Good luck!

It sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself. Hope you start feeling better soon and accomplish all you were hoping for! hug2.gif
