What did you do today to get ready for your upcoming move (in the far or near future)? - Page 4

I wasn't really planning to do anything today, it was going to be my day off, but I ended up going through some boxes and tossed 50 things and added 30 to the donation pile. I also gathered 20 articles of clothing I have pulled out of my closet late last night and added them to the donation pile.

The people that were supposed to come and pick up the free TV today didn't show up after saying they will come later than planned, so I ended up listing the TV on Craigslist again and arranged with someone else to come get it tomorrow since it was too late tonight.

Oh, and I also packed two small boxes and labeled a few others that were packed already.

Still trying to make up my mind if I am driving next Sunday or flying and leaving my car here to have it when I come back for the FET. I need to make up my mind pronto so I know how to pack for the trip.

Five days left for me. And still so much left to do!

Today I:

  • Washed all the bedding, including spare sets, that we have used last weekend when my daughter had friends stay over night. The washer and dryer are being picked up Thursday, so I need to make sure I wash everything that needs washing before then.
  • Two more people flaked on me about picking up the free TV today, but the third on the list showed up this evening, yay!
  • Packed up the Wii and the DVD player
  • Cooked using more stuff from the freezer, fridge and pantry...doing experiments at this point.
  • Still trying to decide if I should leave my car here or drive it on Sunday. Leaning towards leaving it.
  • Packed another large box with clothes from my closet.
  • Tossed a couple of things in the garbage

Tomorrow I have to gather all the plastic shelves, boxes, etc in the living room so it is easy to see what there is, when we need to add something to a tower of boxes in the truck. I still don't think we can fit everything in the truck and no clue what we will do if that is the case.

I also have to finish packing my closet, but for that , I need to figure out if I am driving or flying.

I guess I shall make my decision after a couple of phone calls tomorrow.

And  really, really should start packing the kitchen. Really. biggrinbounce.gif

Thank you mlins! Have you listed the house yet? What have you decided about the garage? Good luck to you too!

Today I:

  • have packed three drawers from the kitchen and one cabinet. I've put a few things aside for donations and threw away/recycled a few too.
  • labeled some of the previously packed boxes
  • sold and mailed out the very last thing I had listed on ebay
  • did two more loads of laundry (bathroom floor rugs)
  • converted a couple of cassette tape recordings into mp3s and tossed the tapes; still have a few more to do
  • pretty much figured out I will have to drive Sunday since the airplane tickets seem to have doubled in the last two days.

I don't remember if I have done anything else. Kinda in denial that it's already Wednesday and we have to be completely packed by Saturday morning when the movers come to help load the truck.

The house listed on the MLS yesterday. I listed low so we can sell fast. Hopefully!! How long did it take others on this board to sell their house? I know each region is different just curious. I'm so exhausted from staging and painting that I've lost motivation to pack. Glad I did a lot of that before we listed. I was afraid of people opening closets, drawers, cabinets and finding towering piles of stuff. I still have a lot to do though. My honey came home last night so I'm trying to persuade him to clean up the garage as much as possible so it looks better for showings and I won't have to move our boxes to my dad's shop. At least there I wouldn't have to pay for storage but it's a half hour away from our home plus it'd be loading up boxes twice! My mom keeps asking if I figured out the garage yet. I'm like "Ah, yeah, there's boxes in there."

StillMe - How far are you driving? It looks like I'll be driving too. My honey is driving the 16 ft Budget truck and I'll be following in our SUV with our son and our cat. The drive for us is 1100 miles about 16 hours. We just decided last night to go easy and take it in three days instead of two.

Not sure how many miles, around 800? It took my husband 10 hrs when he drove the moving truck there back in May. This time he will be driving a 17 ft truck and I will be driving my SUV with the girls.

Lots of luck selling the house fast and getting all the packing done!

I've been packing like mad and seriously, the more I pack, the more there seems left still. I am going insane here! My shoulder muscles are screaming in pain and I just want this to be done with. Today I sold the washer and dryer and tomorrow the fridge will be gone hopefully. I have arranged with someone to come pick up the leftover freezer/fridge stuff tomorrow. My husband arrives tonight with my oldest daughter so I will have some help for the last minute packing left.

We're all moved in!! We still have to clean our old place and get it ready for landlord inspection, but we have until the end of the month for that.

I've got the water filter moved over, and several other service men are coming in the next week to fix little things. I picked out our brand new stove (yay!) and it was delivered the day after we moved in. DP and his dad installed it and saved us 140 bucks!

The washer and dryer here are a million years old and don't work very well, so I'm looking at new ones of those, too. Houses are expensive! I've pretty much got all the furniture arranged, but we don't have much art yet. It's starting to look like a home! We still have to tear down the terrible grandma wallpaper and paint the master bedroom, but all the rest of the paint seems ok.

I love, love, love, love our house love.gifjoy.gifluxlove.gifhearts.gifenergy.gif

How is everyone doing?

Since I have posted last, we have moved twice and now are in the process of packing for my daughters who will be moving this Friday. My husband will be driving the truck. The move is an estimated 14-15 hours.

We packed up several shelves of books and a bunch of our picture frames to prepare for listing our house.  Also talked to the realtor and his "stager" is coming out tomorrow.  We tried listing it ourselves but it hasn't gotten many bites and we're really ready to move.  Found a house I *love* in our destination city--it was built in 1920 and is beautiful with plenty of room for the big family we're hoping for without being pretentious or overwhelming.  Great yard, across the street from a park, very neighborly community... Obviously we can't put in an offer until ours sells, but here's hoping it all works out!  ;)

Question:  We're ready to sell, but we're in no particular rush.  Our realtor suggested a listing price that wouldn't leave us walking away with much for a downpayment but would probably get our house sold pretty quickly.  What would y'all do?  Higher list price, longer wait?  Or vice versa?

How did it work out?

And what have you decided on the listing price? When we were trying to sell, our realtor recommended a higher price and we ended up lowering it after  a while. But we weren't that set on selling after all and rather than reducing the price a second time, we took the house off the market and rented it out instead.

We are back from moving our daughters and ready to start on a new aggressive declutter. Our plan is to reduce our possessions once again, by about 30% now, in preparation for our next move. Which will most likely happen next summer.
