tips for reflux-y babies?

Thread Starter

So, DD is a little over 2 weeks old and seems to have some pretty obvious reflux symptoms.  I feel horrible! What are some of the things that moms who have BTDT done to help alleviate their pains?

Was there a particular style car seat that prevented the comeupins?

How did you go about putting them down? (My toddler would *love* some more attention)

How about wraps/baby carriers - which styles/positions worked well for you?

I also have oversupply, and the advice on how to handle baby on nursing is conflicting with advice on how to handle baby for reflux...and I feel like no matter what way I hold her she is in pain from nursing....what kinds of holds do you use? (for oversupply I was told to keep baby angled head down to prevent too much milk and air from going strait to her belly - the downward angle helps excess milk trickle down out of her mouth instead of being forced down her throat.  But for reflux, being upright is better to prevent the acid from coming back up.  Help?

So, what are some tricks of the trade to help?? I'm pretty sure that for us this is diet related, so I am feeling horribly guilty...and hoping that this passes soon before too much damage is done....

Car seat:  The carseat I use is a Babytrend, and it seems to work okay as a place to nap (to prevent spitting up).  In the car, when it's in motion, the baby still spits up though, and all bets are off.

How did you go about putting them down? You really can't until they outgrow it (they do!).  I wore my guys in a carrier most of the time so they could be more upright without my having to hold them ALL the time.  That was the only way they wouldn't spit up.  The minute you put the baby down, yak.  The bouncy seat still resulted in spitting up, but like the car seat was better than a flat surface.

How about wraps/baby carriers - which styles/positions worked well for you?  Moby wrap, and Ergo worked fine.

Final tips:  Wear a bib!  Oh, and I used a pillow under the head on the changing table for a looooong time.
