We also use a plastic trash can with flip up lid and line it with a wet bag with elastic top. We've never had stink issues though was every other day or stretched to third day sometimes. I think the standard nowadays is not to soak the diapers in a pail or anything before washing which I know is different than what people used to do.
We put all used diapers and wipes into wet bag but would reuse covers a few times if they were not soiled. I just hung them on a rack in baby's room and rotated between 2 until one got dirty then got a fresh one out.
vegrunr - I didn't mean to exclude you from my post of what you mamas have shared about the type of bins you use (I definitely appreciate your input as well). I see that you too use a flip up lid and line it w/wet bag w/elastic top... So, the elastic doesn't cause problems with the function of the mechanism? Maybe I need to look at more options in person because I really like this idea but haven't come across any that would work (with the liners w/ the elastic top)...
Also, still not sure how big of a container I'll need... thinking of the 13 gallon size. Don't want a huge bin because we'll be using a smallish bathroom for any of the spraying and storage of dirty diapers. But, I also don't want to mess up and get too small of a bin that ends up being worthless. As I said, we'll probably be laundering every 2-3 days. I like the look of the round bins but thinking the sleek narrow type would work better in the space... BUT, then the liners may not fit properly in those. Maybe I should just use the wet bags w/zippers I've seen that hang on a hook or doorknob or something and skip the bin idea all together, ugh!
THANKS dakipode! I'm so glad I'm not the only researchaholic!! Sometimes I find that typing all of these things out helps me process all of information I've gathered and come to a decision.
Sure hope I'm not being a pest, just really appreciate hearing from all of you experienced mamas, your first hand knowledge is golden:)
