What's in your diaper bag/going to be in it?

When I asked my MW what I should bring to the hospital she mentioned "and don't forget to bring your diaper bag for the way home."

That got me thinking. What do I put in a diaper bag?? Obviously diapers (choosing cloth), wetbags, some wipes, a onsie, baby wrap

things I'm not sure of

-receiving blanket

-change of shirt for me

.... and all the other stuff that are on your standard lists lol.

What am I missing? Anything? I seems like a lot of things on your standard "what to put in diaper bag" checklist via google is for FF babies or for older kids.

Oh yeah. My wallet and cell too.

I think the blanket and shirt for you should be on the list at least in the beginning. I was out one day and my DD squirted poo all over me. I had to go to goodwill to pick up a cheap outfit. LOL And they can spit up on you too.

I'd also include a burp cloth. You may also want a water bottle/cup for yourself and maybe a snack. Those things are for when you start going out and about though. Not when you first leave the hospital. All you need when you leave the hospital is a diaper, wipes and baby outfit to get you home.

With my previous child, I did a pretty minimal diaper bag, mostly just sticking a few extra items in a large purse. One of the most versatile items I kept in my diaper bag was a big thin flat muslin not (pre-fold diaper.) You could also use a really thin towel, scarf or one of those big 45x45 thin muslin swaddle blankets (Aden and Anais is one $$ brand). Regular receiving blankets are generally too small to be useful for much. I used my giant cloth for:

1. Nursing cover

2. Shade over a stroller or sunny car seat for naps

3. Burp cloth

4. Emergency towel/mess wiper upper

5. Swaddler

6. Folded and rolled as a head support for car seat naps

7. Folded for changing pad

8. Back up diaper

We used 95% cloth diapers, but I put a couple disposables and a small packet of wipes in the glove box of my car when the baby got older and we were out and about more. This saved the day a couple of times.
