I thought this was a nice thought for the beginning of the month.

July 6th!  Where is everybody?  Hopefully out enjoying the beautiful summer weather.  It's hot here but the breeze is blowing so it doesn't feel oppressive.  Our garden is starting to produce delicious peas which has my daughter so happy.  What is everyone else finding in their gardens?  My daughter is thrilled with all the white butterflies that are fluttering around!!!

Maia!  Glad you made it to MA!  can't wait to hear more!

revolting: how was PSG?

ktg: if you're still around I didn't get to say HI to you. I sometimes read on my nook and then mean to reply later and I don't!  I hope you are well.  I agree, kitchen witchery/natural witchery totally a path!  we are all on our own special paths, why do they have to all be defined?  I mean, I get it, people want a way to relate, etc. but it's nice to just be who you are on your own special path.  that's just me... flittering around in my own world so I am just validating myself. haha.

I hope everyone is having a nice season!

It's oppressive as HELL, here, which, I didn't mean that to be a pun but I guess it is hide.gif

Like I said,it's a small A/C unit, but it's 8000 BTU and it's still not cranking like my central A/C in Asheville...yowsa, it's horrid. I have it set at 75, and it was 86* in here by the tiny ancient mercury thermometer I have.

I set the A/C down to 72. The poor thing is really trying hard, but it just is too hot.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 90* as well. Have I said how much I abhor heat? I HATE summer. Absolutely hate it. If it were just 10* cooler, I could enjoy it some...maybe.

I want to get to the MA beaches at some point! I want fresh seafood...we lived at the beach in NC years and years ago, but moved to the mountains in 2003, and you just can't get fresh like you can when you live right there. Now, we are just an hour or so away. Me want lobster! Me want tuna and scallops and mahi! Nom nom nom!

Oh, and I say YES, kitchen witchery is too a path! So ha!

It has been hot and raining here. So I have been spending much time in my one room with AC. I do not do well with the heat in general and at 30 weeks, I am handling it even less ;)

I cannot stand humidity.  We have been lucky, like I said, with no humidity.

I LOOOOVEEEEEE seafood.  I had delicious tuna steak last night.  yummy.gif but nothing like freshy fresh.  We used to vacation in Cape Cod when I was a kid.

Thistlemoon: 30 weeks in July.  Goddess bless you, mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was preggo August - May and I swear if I had been pregnant in the summer I may have found a walk in freezer and set up camp!

I love seafood too! All that good iodine! I ate seafood at least twice a day when we were in FL in April. Coming back to this beautiful land-locked state was difficult in that regard!

Yeah it is pretty freaking hot and August is going to be killer, I am sure. I am preparing. I figure the discomfort is just getting me ready for the discomforts of labor! LOL

I'm thinking, oh no, the discomfort is just getting ME ready for the discomforts of a NE winter! I have been in the south since 1988! yikes2.gif

Maia - YIPPPEEEE and I agree with you - bring on the seafood!!!  All of that sound yummy and I'm glad I picked up some frozen cod from the store yesterday to make fish tacos!!  Too bad no one else in my fam loves seafood the way I do.  Wait I take that back - DS1 loves shrimp like it is going out of style.

Vy - I'm still here as I'm working to get back into my groove of logging in here at MDC at least daily.  I agree about the paths thing.  It was just a question I was not really expecting, but also I was expecting it too.  You are right - it is a way for folks to relate or begin to have an understanding about a person.   I'm going to just open my heart to the experience and see where it takes me with these individuals.

In the meantime - I'm going to keep reading & exploring to see where She takes me on this journey.   I just started doing a bit of psychic exercises to "find the card" and how to access this part of me more easily.   So far I get a hot/cold feeling on my hand for what I'm looking for or avoiding, and it's been fun!

Thistlemoon - I hope you are staying cool and have a pool nearby you to dip your feet in or wander in.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful July and enjoying this wonderful season!!

Maiasaura - Where do you live now? Winter is easy in NE - it is all about layers and having the right clothes for the job (think thermalwear). For me, when it is hot, I can't take my skin off, but when it is cold I can just add some more layers! :)

I forgot about fish tacos yummy.gif On the OBX where I used to live, there was this place that had tuna tacos and they were to die for. I don't eat the shells anymore, but I can make a taco salad, if I remember to make the taco seasoning. I have to make it from scratch now because they use things like dextrose and dried corn syrup in the premade ones irked.gif

I'm in the MetroWest area of MA (I think lol.gif) and I am originally from the northeast...but it's been like 30 years. I hate layers with a vengeance, but I guess I will have to get used to them, and for crying out loud find the right SOCKS....in '07 I realized you can take the woman out of the NE and yes indeedy you can take the NE out of the woman...we were visiting and I got my kid a snowsuit and everything, and gave him two layers of socks, but even so, his poor little Boo-feet were wet and purple when he came in from the snow greensad.gif

And yes, I have been saying the exact same thing about cold vs. hot for years! About taking your skin off. Funny!

My DH thanks all of you for this seafood convo.  I made strawberry-balsamic salmon on the grill last night.  freaking yumyumyum.  here's the recipe, it was ridiculously easy: http://www.inspirededibles.ca/2012/02/roasted-salmon-in-strawberry-balsamic.html

yay!  I am going to try to be better this month on checking in, too!  MDC doesn't tell me when this updates even though I request it to.  whateva!

I'm totally down with the open your heart to the experience.  I have been trying to do more of that lately.  I feel like I have gotten away from my practice and need to get back in the groove.  Be still more, etc.  I was reading "Natural Witchery" and then just stopped.  Perhaps I will pick that back up, or Witchcrafting by Phyllis Currott (Maia it was you who suggested that to me).  I know I need more connection.

Love our northern winters!! yay!!! Love our northern summers, too, frankly!  I can't really say "new england" since I'm in Upstate NY but, basically.  I knew I was meant to be an Upstate girl when I was running earlier this summer at 6am and it was already 70 and I thought "I just cannot wait for it to be 45 in the mornings again!" lol.gif

Thistlemoon: I agree with your comment on hot/cold also!  i'm the queen of layers!!

I'm on a huge mexican/tex-mex kick right now - homemade fresh salsa, slow roasted pork carnitas, fish tacos.  YUM!  I need to break away from using pre-made taco seasoning and try out recipe I have for homemade ones.   I'm pretty sure I have all the spices I need, I just need to do it! :)

I'm hoping to find a white sauce for my fish tacos that doesn't use dairy.  Trying to be DF is HARD and makes going gluten free almost a walk in the park.  I keep feeling like a factory safety sign - "haven't had any dairy in xx days!".  So far I'm up to four days straight without a flub (over the course of the past month), but then I get lax and eat something only to later find dairy in the ingrediants. :(

That looks delish!  I love that flavor combination of strawberries & balsamic vinegar!  With salmon to boot!  oh my stars!  yummy.gif

Daily dose of AFM:  I'm commuting to work again via bike.  Road construction around my work is getting crazy, and I've been hemming & hawing about doing the commute again as a goal of recovering after the car accident.  So ask and the universe shall provide!   Also I'm going to pull together a treasure map since I didn't get to in April.  Crazy time in April - car accident with the whole family involved, new car needed, got a lawyer and the whole kit & kaboodle.  Good news everyone is fine and I think now is the time to set out some intentions for this year!

It's hot here in WI, but everyone is glad that summer decided to show up after a cool, wet June.  Hopefully I'll get some inspiration to go and play in my garden a bit to clear out some of the weeds which are taking over.

I'm hot, kids are grumpy. Dh's brother is going to move in with us for a bit to get on his feet, so the extra hands and/or money will help. I have a short-term writting gig, which pays decent but there is little communication from the client. I'm working on getting more homemade cheeses going. The spreads are doing really well at the farmer's market. The illustrations are still coming along great for the toddler book.

Oh, and I'm writting a cookbook. Think kitchen witch stuff that is easy and frugal with LOTS of pics and descriptions. I'm considering doing a kickstarter and self-publish rather then try to find someone interested in publishing and not doing it the way I want it. What do you guys think?

YES! Shutup and take my money! That would be awesome! I'm very very much a visual learner and always dying for more pictures! Kitchen Witchery is my path so perfect! Seriously where do I sign up?

Looks like MDC has a new way to quote things? Let's see if I did this right.

Anyway, try coconut milk? Just remember to mix/blend/froth/shake it up before you pour from the can, as the fat separates from the rest. I think it's awesome and when I went dairy-free for a month, I used that in my coffee. I'm really picky about coffee color and thickness and flavor, so I used witchygrrl's recipe of an egg, a can of coconut milk, and some coconut oil, blended up and kept in the fridge. It worked really well, if I used a frother on my cup of coffee.

You better hurry on the TM, mama! It's Cancer new moon and I think it's nearly over. Sorry about the accident-- did I remember that? headscratch.gif

Oooh! Lurve cookbooks!

What do I think? Here: I remember once reading a recipe-- wish I could remember where from-- but I thought this was the COOLEST thing. The writer didin't just put in ingredients and instructions-- she also put in the magick, too, like "Stir 3x deosil because it does ____", or she'd tell the magickal properties of the spices, like cinnamon for heat/love/passion, or "Add love while you stir"...I loved it. What's a cookbook for Witches if it doesn't also have the magickal parts?

And yeah, you can't beat frugal thumb.gif

Indeed. I haven't bought a book or cookbook in ages, because I <gasp> decluttered the books. We use the library a lot more, now, and we have less Stuff! I love it. That said, I looked at a friend's cookbook not long ago, and might actually blow the bux...it's a Paleo cook book.

AFM: We're doing well in our new apartment. I am starting to find my way around this city, just a bit...I have to say, whoever coined the term "MASSHOLE" wasn't kidding. I have never seen such crazy, aggressive, inconsiderate driving in all my life. I'm 53 so that's saying something. Not even in Virginia Beach, where those people can't drive to save their lives. Those people are just ignorant and bad drivers. These people are those AND they're aggressive. Geez. You can NOT, absolutely not, drive on autopilot around here, not for one red hot second, not in your own neighborhood. It's scary.

My son still hasn't found any friends, nor can I figure out how to get him some. This street and this whole neighborhood is 3-deckers, and he's walked and biked all around, with no luck. He says everyone's under 5 or over 18 that he has seen greensad.gif And the worst part is, he just wants to spend all day-- I mean ALL day-- on video games anyway. If I have to go out and do stuff and I don't want to drag him along, I let him do that, but he's a beast when I get home and he doesn't want to take a break. Today  I just went and shut the damn computer off. He is gonna not be on there all damn day, so ha.

It's not fair, though, for me--- gah--- M gets time alone, and ds gets time alone, and I get none unless I go out somewhere. I can be alone while ds is on his computer or Netflix, but that's not truly ALONE, in the house alone.

I need a job in two months. I haven't worked since 1999. Any ideas? Any of y'all work at home? Without being creative, I mean, for someone else. What do you do?

ktg: How did the treasure map making/setting intentions go?  Yikes about the car accident! Is everyone okay?  Gardening!  Yes!  I am hoping to wake up EARLY tomorrow to get in and weed my garden.  It's overrun but it's been a JAZILLION degrees and I haven't been feeling like weeding in that temp!!

Wolfcat: yes on the cookbook.  be sure to post the link!!  I like how Maia described the recipe with the magickal instructions.  That sounds awesome!
Maia!  Massholes, lol.gif  Are they worse than Jersey drivers?  I hope your son will connect with some friends soon.  Is there any local camps in parks or something like that?  You know how some communities will hold summer camps with theme weeks?  Maybe he is too old for that...

Welcome, LdyDethShadowz!

I have been "vacationing" lately.  Spent a couple days in State College for Arts Fest then went north with the fam to the Adirondacks.  My mom was up there with her cousin and aunt (my great aunt).  They stay in a cabin that my great grandparents had built in the 1930s and my great grandmother used to spend every summer there.  I swear to you, the water is magickal.  So amazing and replenishing.  I know nature has much to do with it, the negative ions and energy but I swear, I can feel the women ancestors of my family there.  It is incredible.

Lol Well, it isn't done yet. I should be finishing up the writing of it this summer and get pics done just after that. I'll keep you guys posted on that, or the facebookers can follow my author page: https://m.facebook.com/home.php?__user=100000971162635#!/AuthorSarahB?__user=100000971162635

The setup will be more like detailed recipes with variations and a section for the sabbat, element, purpose and other correspondances of ingredients, as well as extra stuff for adding the magic, like making shapes in breads and crusts, etc. I have about 30 base recipes so far.
