We were planning not to find out last time, but at the 20-week ultrasound, he showed us what he had going on, so it was obvious that we were having a boy! Not sure this time though.... I'm hoping for a girl, since we are not planning any more kids after this one, but I'll be happy with another boy. We'll probably decide at the ultrasound, like last time!

We are dying to find out!  Can't wait for the 20 wk scan...we are both hoping very much for a girl.  Of course we will adjust and love a boy just the same! But I would rather have a day of slight disappointment FAR before the baby is here....I know by the time March rolls around I will have fully adjusted to a boy!  (but *fingers crossed* for a girl in the meantime:)

Did the cell-free dna test too, got results back today--no elevated risk for the trisomies, and it's a boy.  :)

I'm glad we did it, but we're still going to get the quad-screen, as that checks for elevated risk of more things than just trisomies (so it screens for neural tube defects plus some other stuff), and of course we're getting the anatomical u/s at 20 weeks, since that also checks for more stuff than just gender.  :)

congrats on your wee boy and no elevated risks Tigerchild :)

I can't remember but it seems like you were hoping girl? Or just Not-Twins? :D Congratulations either way on a healthy baby!

I still haven't decided. I guess I have until the 20-week scan to figure it out!

Pro: I want a boy. If it's a boy we'll name him after my grandfather, who probably won't live to see our second child (planning on only two unless the second pregnancy is twins or something!) I know I would adore a girl too, but like many here I would like to get any feelings of disappointment out before the birth.

Also, I plan on the 20-week scan and I don't like the idea of some stranger knowing when I don't! That's kinda petty, and not really a big factor.

Con:
I really don't want gender-specific anything. If we found out we'd try to keep it secret, but I'm afraid we'll slip and then not be able to stop the shower of pink or blue.

Also, I kind of like not knowing, being able to dream about a boy or a girl in turns.

Possible compromise: have the tech put it in an envelope for us, and we can open it at home much later in the pregnancy. That might be the way to go.

Those who know have you compared with the Chinese gender calendar? When I did this for my first three, they all lined up. It is saying girl this time which I am hoping for. I will take a few days to recover after the u/s if the baby is a boy. I had to do the calculated Chinese calendar age, but Imwas surprised at the accuracy!

For me it's been the opposite lol. It said girl for both of the boys, this time it says boy so I think girl lol

2nd son - girl

this baby - boy

I scheduled my anatomy ultrasound.  I was a little irritated because the radiology place said I had to wait until 19 weeks (3 weeks from now), even though my midwife said 18 is fine.  Then I am REALLY irritated because they won't let my boys be there.  We view this as a family pregnancy, and the boys are studying anatomy this year, so I am bummed about the policy.  My friend will watch them and then afterward I think I will wrap a notecard with the gender and videotape them opening it.  Hopefully they have a good response, regardless...  Yesterday it took 3 midwives and 4 tries to find the heartbeat with doppler (couldn't find it at 11 weeks, either), so I am bracing myself to pay for a private scan if this LO doesn't cooperate!!!  It wouldn't surprise me!

I think most places won't allow it - small room and people doing other types of scan so they don't want the noise.

A lot of places, though, can put the scan on a DVD for you so you can bring it home to them. Or we recorded the whole thing with our cell phone camera with our first son. :)

I can't believe they won't let your boys in the ultrasound with you. That is a big deal family event, not to mention one that they make a ton of cash from. Maybe if you explain how important it is to you maybe they can make an exception?

I didn't even think to ask... I'm bringing them. I scheduled it so they could go! :)

So I decided to book a private scan next Monday to see the gender. That way the boys can be there. The anatomy scan might be long and boring anyway, so this way they get to see what they are interested in and know "first", and we can double check gender at the regular scan a week and a half later. This is kind of funny because I went with no scans with my second DS (until I was post-dates), and now I will have 3 by 20 weeks. Oh well! I'll be 17w4d next Monday, so let's hope the LO cooperates.
