Do I go for the same choice as my sister for convenience for our parents? Do I go for fewest chemicals? Argh!
Case 2) Doulas -- I think we will try to hire a doula/labor support person. I've now been to probably a dozen websites, but haven't actually contacted anyone. Do I email people sequentially, or just send out a bunch of emails, and see if people are available for my EDD? A nurse in my midwife's office is also a doula, and she'd probably be great. Do I start with her since I already sort of know her? Or would it be weird since she's at my midwife's office? I suppose I won't get an answer to these questions until I ask, but... gah -- I don't know why I can't get started.
(1) i have handed off all baby products that require research to DF. i think we are now looking at Britax since they are the only ones who eliminated some kind of chemical. if i'm not mistaken. we're not doing the travel system, so will need to get a separate stroller when the time comes for strolling. we are planning on getting one that is both rear- and front-facing. i got these recommendations from i *think* tillymonster in another thread. you'll have to check your car model and see if it has the LATCH system or the european equivalent, whose acronym escapes me presently. my car's age is borderline, so i think we'll need to take it to a dealer to see if my car can be retrofitted for LATCH or not. after that we will go and get the car seat. i'm planning to start getting my car all set up this weekend.
(2) we are lucky enough to have a doula agency in our area where we met with the agent, answered questions and she screened her pool of doulas to see who would be the best fit. it saved us a lot of time and energy! (and was a completely free service!)
if you don't have any service like that in your area, i would email every doula who sounds good to you and ask if she's available for your EDD. that's the first thing our agent did.
as for who to go with, all doulas we're considering are DONA-certified. a pre-screening was done based on what kind of support we're looking for and what techniques appeal to us. now we're interviewing three people, but the only thing we really need to figure out is whether it fits energetically. so basically we just need to talk to all three (yesterday first one, 2 to go tonight and tomorrow) and just see who "feels" right. i'm sure all three are more than qualified and perfectly equipped to handle our birth, so i don't even really bother with asking about any special qualifications or whatnot.
re bra talk: i really hated getting all this maternity wear during the pregnancy. i had to go shopping at least three times because the old clothes wouldn't fit anymore. now i would need to go again but i just can't bring myself to it because i really only have 2 1/2 months to go (even though i do not have enough clothes right now, which is also a nuisance). about the bras, i just bought two extenders, one black one white, for my old bras. since my cup size hasn't changed, my pre-preg bras still fit. however, i'm getting the feeling that i will need to step into a motherhood maternity store yet again soon to get one or two nursing bras, and the maternity belt for my back and hip pain. *rolls eyes*
re weight gain: i'm 28 1/2 weeks today, and have gained about 18lbs. i feel chubby and worse than that, i just can't stand food anymore. i feel like i'm stuffing my face allll the damn time. yet i am HUNGRY - so i just need to keep on eating. stretch marks on my upper thighs, chubby face, UGH. i too haven't exercised much (if at all!) during the pregnancy - at most DF and i would go on a quick walk in the evening, but my prenatal yoga or aquatics plans haven't worked out so far although i'm still planning on a yoga class (next week, when we're done interviewing doulas).
i cannot WAIT to get this baby out and start losing weight hopefully through breastfeeding. i want to be back at my pre-preg weight within a few months, if at all possible. not sure though if post-partum caloric needs will allow me to do so.
so, this week we're getting the doula interviews and hiring decision behind us. one down, two to go. making the decision on who to hire this weekend, then i can walk over to the To Do List thread and cross that one off my list :) also planning on getting started with my car this weekend. those are the next two big things. everything else to follow.
