Weekly chat thread for July 13th- July 19th - Page 5

I woke up in the middle of the night with very strong aches on the top of my belly and nausea and more this morning when I woke up, but they have settled down. She has gotten lower in the last day so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I am 37 weeks on Sunday and had another talk with her about how Sunday is a lovely day to be born.

I managed to get back up finally and finish folding the blankets/hanging the clothes and sorting a bit...  Still have it all over my laundry area and need to get it put away ASAP because I need to get back to "normal laundry".  So far I found two outfits to part with.  Two.  Out of at least 50... :p  Most of the stuff we have is actually pretty practical, so it's more just getting rid of things I don't like.  All of it is hand-me-downs from my two older girls, plus the neutral hand-me-downs from my boy.  Which is apparently just a ridiculous amount.  I did go through and pare down the socks a bit - I only kept the ones I really like that are at least semi-girly (not very many neutral ones).  It's still a ridiculous pile that she will never wear.

GISDiva, good luck next week!  I'm nervous about the GBS test myself...  I've been negative all 3 times prior, but I keep thinking "I'm due" or something.

Cathy, good luck!!

Edelweiss, yes, low, horizontal incision.  It's pretty standard these days and they really rarely do anything else unless it's truly necessary to get baby out.  You might also discuss single vs double layer sutures....

Edelweiss, I second Calladona on discussing sutures. Some believe that the risk of uterine rupture is lower with double. You might also want to find out if you're allergic to surgical tape, which is used on the outside after staples are removed. If allergic, stitches might be preferable for closing the outer incision.

Edelweiss, If they will give you sutures and NOT staples, do it!  With me the staples caught on everything and pulled and poked.  If I would have known what was going on down there and what it would feel like later, I definitely would have requested stitches/sutures!

Yes to sutures/glue vs. Staples. I've had 3 csections and the 1 time I had staples was my worst healing. Also the double layer closure is fairly standard, but gives you a stronger uterus for future pregnancies. Takes a little longer to close you up, but is worth it.

I had staples with my only c-section...  They covered it with some plastic thing that made it not catch on things.  Removed them on day 2 when I was discharged, so I went home with steristrips.  I think they were removed too soon - my incision reopened and got infected and took until 6 weeks PP to fully heal (with DH and I packing it twice daily).  Anyway, I would prefer the glue myself if I had it to do again, but I dunno if you get a choice?

Thanks all for the section advice. I will discuss with my OB on Tuesday and see if I have an option with staples and ask about double layering sutures and confirm we will do the low horizontal incision. I knew c-section would be a possibility for some time but it's now just hitting me so it's a big chunk of my birth plan, that and NICU plans although I am so praying and hoping we can avoid NICU.

The c-section advice is helpful to me, too. No plans for one, but better to know what's out there so I can write a contingency in my birth plan.

Cathy and Leigh, I am having similar nausea and clearing out. It's been going on for several days (I'm 38+5), so I'm not sure if it's a bug or labor prep. The nausea is really bad though and eating has become a chore yet again this pregnancy. Despite the optimism of those around me and my own wishful thinking, I would be veeeerry surprised if we see this baby any earlier than 39+6. Wow, I can't believe that's just about a week away though. Holy heck!

My doctor and my mom will both be out of town briefly tomorrow (well, today technically) and even though they could both make it back in a hurry, I am definitely going to keep still and my legs crossed for the day. Just in case. smile.gif

ETA: Tonight we were at a friend's house and another lady there had a bit much to drink and kept yelling out "This lady needs to go to the hospital ASAP!" eyesroll.gif I told her I liked her optimism. DH said "It's too late to get going tonight. Maybe in the morning after you've had a good night's sleep." Well I had to really laugh at that- like baby comes on a schedule and even more laughable- that I EVER get a good night's sleep lately. LOL!

I am really curious when this one will come. Monkey was induced 41 + 3 and Bee came on her due date. So will Iggy come 10 days earlier? No idea.

First babies are late sometimes. My first was almost 42 wks. The other two were 39.6 and 40.1
post #91 of 96

I'm anxious to see when this one comes...  First was 40+3, then 38+1, then 39+1...  Had tons of prodromal with #3 but he still came later than #2...  Having even more prodromal with this one...  What does it all mean?!! LOL  Had an even bigger random contraction today and lots of other random ones (though mostly painless).

DS came at 38+2.  If this one follows suit that will in a week and a day! bigeyes.gif

I'm 38+6 today and if I don't have this baby soon, I am going to drive my DH crazy with all the project and cleaning frenzy around the house. Ha!

But I'm thinking another week at least. Sigh.

I've got my next MW appt on Wednesday (will be 39w 5d) and if im still preggo then, I'm seriously tempted to tell her to reach up, grab something and just pull!! Lol
Barely sleeping now, food is either disgusting or I stuff myself senseless, heartburn and wicked thirst all night (leading to lots of pee), emotions completely out of whack, and a cranky 2 year old. I. Am. Done.
I almost hope to not feel enough movement so I can call the MW and get this thing over with. Bad, bad, desperate mama greensad.gifgreensad.gif

Sleep, what's that?  Plus, I have a toddler having a growth spurt.eyesroll.gif  Despite her nursing all night the last two nights, nothing.  It would be nice to wait until my OB will be there on Monday, Wednesday or Friday through next Monday.  The baby is way down in my bum.  Like I feel her while I walk around pushing down on my bum.  So weird and I need to go to my chiro tomorrow if I make it that far, my lower back on the right is really painful.

FarmerCathy, it's wonderful that you're still nursing! It's been absolutely excruciating for me since about March and DD basically stopped after I encouraged her to cut back. She latches on now at bedtime but doesn't really nurse. I hope after the baby comes she will nurse again.
