A little whining for a glass of wine anyone?

30wks today ladies. In 8wks I could be having a baby. Omfg. !!!

I really wanted a glass of wine today. Not a sip or two. A glass. What is wrong with me??!?! Why would I be craving that? I guess the fact that a chilled glass of savi blanc on a hot and humid day sounds better then anything else right now!

Do any of you ladies indulge or am I the only one? In my pre-prego life I'm a bit of a wine snob. Or I at least like to think I am!

I have a glass of wine or a beer every so often. Usually I don't want to finish the whole thing, but sometimes I will, it just takes me a long time. I haven't really craved alcoholic drinks lately, but once in a while a cold beer on a hot day sounds just right. With food and in moderation, I feel like its ok to have one.

tillymonster - I definitely am with you on the craving and a nice crispy New Zealand Sauv. Blanc is perfect on a hot day. So, is a nice cold micro brew, yum! I can't say I've indulged in a full glass of wine or beer but came close on our anniversary dinner out. I definitely steal a few sips from DH's wine or beer (quite frequently actually since about 25 weeks or so - nothing at all in the 1st trimester, oh and always with food).

I'm not sure if I could actually drink a whole glass of wine or a whole beer but they sure are tempting sometimes... I looked into this quite a bit in the beginning of my pregnancy and even though the mainstream is against ANY (blah)... I agree with Jennyanydots - I don't think that an occasional glass of wine or beer (with food) is a terrible thing, especially this late in pregnancy.

Yes Suzie! New Zealand pungent and grassy is MY FAV style of sauvignon blanc. Mmmmm! I've been having sips if DH orders one and I've been making him order one on occasion. I think I couldn't have a whole one either and half the time get reflux/heartburn from one stupid sip. So unfair!!!

I know I can have a glass but I just can never wrap my brain around actually doing it. Plus ordering in a restaurant never feels right-- I can feel people's eyes on me though I'm probably just paranoid.

With this crazy pregnancy I already did something I really regret. Kaiser and their faulty HCG test said I wasn't pregnant. I was very upset and emotional so I went and had 2 glasses of wine at a restaurant. I was like *maybe* 5-6wks then and feel like an idiot later. So it's my own dumb guilt trip.

I'm already planning a wine tasting trip at this babies' 4mo mark for my bday in Feb. hopefully I'll be up to it then!

I had roughly 2 tblsp of wine today. It was yummy, even though it wasn't cold.
DH has also been quite generous with sharing his beer -- I rarely want more than a sip or two, but it is nice to feel like I'm still a grownup.

I will occasionally have a glass of wine if we're out having a nice leisurely meal. Though I just can't manage to finish it.

I'll have the odd glass of champagne or beer or sips here and there while pregnant. I think like anything else, sporadic and minor exposure to anything isn't going to do anything. It's the consistent or extreme exposure that potentially causes harm.

My confession is that I bought a 6-pack of IPA. I am a bit of a microbrew lover in my prepregnant state and I have been REALLY craving nice piney-IPAs and last week I caved and bought a 6 pack of one I really like. I am allowing myself one a week on nice days when I am sitting out in the yard.

man... I MISS red WINE SOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. With my history - I refused to risk it - even thought I heard that a little red wine would keep my uterus calm. BUT - the hubs buys me O'douls AMBER non-alcoholic beer every now and then. It helps take the edge off. It's super strong so it tastes real. I've already bought the two little bottles that we're going to take to the hospital and toast with after the birth. I bet I have two sips and pass out though. lol

I have been craving a margarita or a tom collins.  I don't know which I'll request first after baby gets here :)

Oh man. I miss a good IPA in the summer months and might just buy some too! I like Beligum style a bit more and that's even more wheat-- which I'm trying to stay away from period. What brand? My favorite is a local Rye IPA from Bootleg Brewery. I wouldn't stress over one beer a week psh. One glass of wine however if it's full-bodied, can be a lot of alcohol so I start to feel warm after a few sips. That feels wrong and I pass it to DH. Lol.

I'm not a wine fan unless it's mead or made from berries or unusual things, but I do like cider. Our cider is alcoholic, and there is a toffee apple flavour that I really love but haven't had any since becoming pregnant. I did have a quarter of a bottle of peach cider recently, but didn't drink any more than that because I suddenly felt really guilty about it. But having read this I feel a lot happier about the odd drink. My main drink of choice is Bailey's which I do miss.

aw man - bailey's with a shot of gran marnier is the BOMB! That's all I drank (besides Red Stripe) on our trip to Jamaica a few years ago. The red stripe in jamaica is MUCH stronger than it is here - they call ours the light version.

I usually have a ton of Leinenkugel in the summer.. they have such great flavors. I told DH to stock up on some of the ones that are seasonal so that I can have them post baby. lol

It's the "Hop Circle" IPA from a localish brewery called Phillips. Quite yummy. Not my most favourite of all but it's a good one to grab when I want something I know I'll like. I also like that their names for their IPAs are based on puns. They have another one called "Total Eclipse of the Hop".

If it make you feel any better, it probably won't but with my DD I went on a girl's weekend and had approximately 90 oz of beer in one night. I didn't know I was pregnant and was maybe 4 weeks along.

She's fine and I say she's so smart cos I drank so much unknowingly on that one night. :D

Then this time I was probably only 3 weeks pregnant, didn't know and went to dinner with my parents for my moms birthday and had 3 glasses of white zin.

In both pregnancies I've waited until later to indulge in a glass of wine or beer. I usually only do it once a week or so and with a big meal.

I wouldn't beat yourself up abut the drinking in early pregnancy and even if you have a small glass now, I think you will be okay. I read something..somewhere that on average it would take 8 drinks a day for it to effect the fetus. I don't remember my source on that, I think maybe one of Penny Simkin's child birthing books....

Mmmmmm. My two favorite drinks! We went to a great new taco joint when I was like 4 months and I made DF get one of their house made scratch Margaritas. Oh my goodness was it delish! I only had a few sips, but I knew that would be the first place I go for a drink after the baby was born.

This is a good time to ask... for the Breastfeeding mamas - what is your plan with alcohol? Alcohol strips? Waiting 2 hours post drinking to BF? A glass or less? Pumping and dumping? I'm curious. I had planned on going with having less than a glass of something and then waiting 2 hours to BF.

I never have more than a glass of anything, so I haven't really thought much about it. It has been so long since I had a whole drink, it will be a while before I work back up to that level.
I expect I will occasionally have a half glass, and just wait a couple of hours to nurse.

yeah- that's what I'm thinking too... it's been so long I'll probably pass out after two sips anyway! lol

I've never worried about it, like using test strips or pumping and dumping. I never have more than a drink or two and as long as I'm not feeling it much, I'm not overly concerned with the tiny bit that may be passed though the milk. Especially since realistically she'll probably be at least 4-6 months old before I really feel like going out and having a drink. Truthfully, I worry more about the potential dehydrating effects of alcohol on my milk supply than any alcohol passing to baby.
