We had our first appointment last week. It was a bit weird since I work in the mw's office as the childbirth educator. Everyone is like, "what can we tell you that you don't already know?" but it's different when you are going through it so I made sure to let them know I want the regular client treatment. It was a really nice experience and baby sounded great.

I had my first appointment with the midwife yesterday and found out that I was exactly 10 weeks along. Also recalculated my DD from March 2nd to Feb. 26th which is awesome as I'm a Feb. baby myself. She was also able to find the heartbeat despite baby sitting wicked low, and it sounded great! I'm not giving up on it being twins though as they run in the family on both sides, and my mom is fraternal while I'm identical. I can't wait for the next visit when BF will be able to come as well!
I didn't have another mw appointment today, but I did have an ultrasound (at the genetic screening appt). It was SO much fun! I'm just over 12w now and the baby was so much more defined than my last one at 9w. It was kicking and moving around. We saw both feet and hands and all fingers and toes :) Really just amazing. Oh, and I was floored that we could also actually SEE the heart and the brain and all that. Crazy! I think my husband was blown away, too...it may finally be hitting him!
hi ladies-- mine have gone well...except the day i found out i was preggo was my bday, and i thought i was miscarrying! so it floored me! my dr....which i dont like and am switching, sent me promptly to do bloodwork down the hall at another office. thankfully all my bloodwork came back great!---BUT i just got an obnoxious bill in the mail from my insurance company saying that where i went to do bloodwork wasnt in-network, and theyre charging me $1,600!! I'm so frustrated... i gave them my insurance card and they took al my info, and never said a thing about not taking my insurance...obviously i wouldnt have gone there! so, needless to say i'm fighting it tooth and nail!
but any who.. my dr. did a super quick tummy ultrasound, and measured 10w 1d...so she changed my due date to feb 21. she didnt tell me though, i saw it on a piece of paper. i dont like her. at all.
also, shes pushing me to do a detalied ultrasound to look for downs syndrom....but i don't think i want to. anyone else have experience with this, and can speak into it?
Personally I skipped the ultrasound and bloodwork for Downs and genetic defects because I am low risk (pretty young, no family history) and there seem to be enough false positives that it adds extra stress. In another scenario I might get it, say if I were ten years older or if there was something in the family.
Had my first OB appointment today. We've had several scans and tests etc.. because we're IVF conception and high risk. But this was the first one where we actually met with OBs who are part of the practice that we're with. It was a great experience. I really want to have a natural birth and I was worried about having to be in a hospital. Fortunately the staff at the OB clinic are extremely supportive of natural birth. They actually suggested I hire a doula (which I have) and write a birth plan (which I will) which were two things I had been told hospitals are often reluctant to accommodate.
