I have three intact boys and a conservative Jewish husband, who was circumcised but is now an intactivist. Check out the website Beyond the Bris, or the book Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective by Ronald Goldman for any info on Jews who opt out of circumcision. Does not make your child any less of a Jew.
Girls are protected by law from any form of genital mutilation, cultural or religious reasons included, boys are not. It is too profitable in the good old USA. "Researchers" keep coming up with reasons why it should be done, but the funny thing is, men are not dying in other parts of the world for remaining intact.
There are many videos on you tube you can watch to see the horrific procedure done if you are still unsure. I also had to assist as an RN in the maternity ward many years ago. I vowed never to do that to any future sons of mine. I am relieved my husband felt protecting his sons was more important than maintaining a barbaric religious custom that hurts and kills babies (a baby died in Israel this summer minutes after his bris). And in the general community, over 100 baby boys die each year as a result of circumcisions.
So, we still attend the Chabad for services, the Rabbi is also a mohel and he knows how we feel (we are also FB friends and he sees my anti-circ posts all the time-neither he nor his wife have de-friended me yet :)
A mom's job is to protect her precious son above all else.
By the way, there was also a letter on one of the intactivist sites last winter written by a 20 something boy to his mohel expressing his anger at what he did to him.
