About 1 1/2 years ago my doctor started treating me for iron, B12 & D deficiency. I was extremely tired & couldn't muster strength for most physical activity. My hair was falling out & I felt awful. Through supplementation (& it seemed diet) iron went up. I stopped taking extra iron but continued taking vitamins D & B12. I started eating meat & switched to mostly traditional foods type diet.
I forgot to make my second follow up appointment but I was feeling good. My hair loss seemed to slow & I was no longer light headed all the time. My focus was good & I had energy throughout the day.
Well, this spring I started having GI issues, mostly constipation, tummy discomfort, changes in bowel movements. So I go to my doctor after this is going on for a month or so & not improving.
Find out I am EXTREMELY low in iron (thankfully not anemic) & despite taking supplements quite low in D, B12, folate & magnesium. Well, doc thinks it might be celiac & does the blood panel & genetic markers. I start looking into it & I'm convinced this is what it is. Particularly since I've also been having dental issues.
Well, everything came back negative & I still feel like crap after cutting out gluten for a week (I stopped eating it right after taking the test).
I'm not sure where to go from here. There's obviously something going on in my gut. I'm not absorbing anything from all the lovely food we spend our time & money on. And I realize I've been suffering through some serious brain fog & memory problems as a result. I've noticed my hair is falling out again & my skin is just awful. My cycle is wonky & I'm anxious a lot.
So I'm not sure what avenue to explore next. When I was certain it was celiac I was gearing myself up for the GAPS or SCD diet. It seems like SUCH a commitment that I'm not sure I should go down that road just for the heck of it. But we'd like to get pregnant again & right now I'm in now shape to support another life in me.
Elimination diet? GAPS? More testing via my doctor? Acupuncture? Pls help! I'm at a total loss. Thank you!!!
