Now the history: She is officially due on the 30th, but her provider is having her try to get things going (naturally for now) early because she has gestational diabetes. This is her second baby. She had a c-section with her last because she was pre-eclamptic and when they induced her she couldn't make it happen vaginally. So this time she is REALLY hoping to be able to have a natural, vaginal birth. She has been having prelabor contractions and diarrhea for four or five days now and is feeling anxious and done with being pregnant. She works at a laid back design firm, and is wondering when she should stop going in.
My first thought was that she should stop going in now. Then she can focus on walking, resting, nurishing herself, and stimulating the contractions. But of course, if she takes off now, she loses time from her maternity leave... and with that factored in it's really hard to advise. I guess on the one hand, if she takes the time off now and she is rested, nourished and prepared for the birth it might sway her chances of having to be sectioned again, which would make her maternity leave and recovery time more enjoyable and easier. But, then again, she may deliver vaginally anyhow, there's no way to know!
Help me! What would you tell your client/friend if they asked your advise about this?
