Really you lived here?!?! Not many people want to come back here, but I don't think it is so bad. And I don't even live in a pretty part. But I have lived here all my life and it is kind of part of me. I know that is probably weird.....

It seems like there are quite a few midwifes, as least around me and some are willing to drive 2 hours for their mamas. Maybe home birth is spreading more (yay!)?

Yep, the kids dad was from Lancaster, SE of Columbus.  We lived in the Hocking Hills, about a mile from Old Man's Cave.  But traveled all over and there are really nice areas all over, Nelsons Ledges up near Canton, Athens is a cute little college town, Blackfoot Gorge near Newark.

The work just sucks up there.  Maybe I'll come back up one day and open a free standing birth center. ;)

Yes - I am looking to birth out of the hospital with this one. Both DD and DS were hospital births. I'm either having a MW come to my house or driving to birth elsewhere.

I had my first 3 in a hospital none of which was a horrible experience other than the OB lying to me about numerous things and being annoyed by practically everything like not being fed real food or practically any food for that matter, nurses waking me at all hours, telling me how to breastfeed, arguing with me about everything...  Anyway- this will hopefully be my third home birth.

My suggestions for random things :

plastic tablecloths are great.  I sometimes use them on my table and when they get a rip on them I put tape over the rip and then pack them away for the birth.  We have covered every area where the baby might be or "fluids and/or solids"  might end up.  Then throw them all away :)  They work awesome lol  I should start saving again..

grape juice for labor.

celebratory meal for afterwards in the freezer to thaw while in labor :)  I am always starved after and want food right way!

short night gowns?  I sweat and like to change them frequently- although I think I probably end up naked- I don't actually remember?  But I think naked works too lol.  I would never ever ever do that in a hospital!

Comfrey leaf for a bath tea- takes the ache out of all the achy parts

lots of bottles of peroxide- my actual births have been completely mess free- it is those drips after that I have a problem with...

I think that is it- your birth kit should have all the medical necessities you will need.
