Hey folks, Help me out with your best ideas for snacks and food to take for our day of air travel coming up. We're trying to avoid paying for airplane or airport food - largely because of the cost but we also probably won't have much time to get food on our layover. I've thought of the obvious: fruit and nuts, maybe some veggie sticks. But with no liquids (no yogurt), I'm having trouble coming up with much else. Note: I'm trying to avoid wheat flour and sugar.
Ideas for nutritious snacks/food to take on airplane
I'm not gluten free - I'm just trying not to eat white flour. And I figured I'd just say no wheat flour since whole grain wheat flour and breads made from it are pretty hard to get here, making bread just kind of out of the question for me. Protein bars are also hard to come by and I bet if I found them they would be pretty sugar heavy. That's the problem with granola bars (which would normally be my go-to snack anyways). We actually only have one 3 hour flight and one 1 hour flight. But the total amount of travel time (from leaving our front door here to arriving at my parents front door there will be about 10 hours if everything goes as planned.
splath - good suggestion!! I was also thinking hardboiled eggs...They wouldn't spoil in one day, would they?
Rice balls. Rolls / wraps with corn tortillas. Whole pieces of fruit (but you must be able to eat them without a knife).
Just remember that any food that you take will probably have to be eaten before you go through US Customs, so if you have another flight to catch after that, you'll need to buy food for it at the airport.
