Hmmm....you guys are going to throw me out of the no-spend club after today. I put down a deposit on a new bike. It is a cargo bike to replace our old car. While I am crazy excited about my new bike, I am a little embarrassed to be spending this much right now. The good new-- we have been setting aside money for the past few months and we finally have enough to pay cash. The bad news -- I have been looking all summer for a used one, but dang, I just cannot find one for a decent price. These things really hold their value -- a bike that was bought new for $1250 is being sold for $1000.
This is a big part of our "revamp our lives in 2013" plan -- we left our old lives, moved to a small college town near the mountains and the ocean, rented a cheap apartment, got rid of most of our crap, and are living a light and wonderful new life. I am in heaven, truly, this is the happiest I have been in years. And my new bike is a big part of our 'live well, drive less, buy less crap' philosophy.
I must wait a week till the bike is ready and I am so, so, so crazy excited to start biking more.
Edited -- I am making money as well as spending it. I dropped off two huge tubs of clothes and shoes at the consignment shop yesterday. Hoping to get enough to cover the cost of clothes for the younger boys next summer.
