OH and I will speak on vax for Amanda.  Lol.

We have a genetic componenet that keeps my kids from safely being vaxed on the current schedule.  If you do want to vax, you can find a ped that splits vaccines, such as doing a pertussis vaccine instead of a dTap or just polio instead of Pentacel.   It reduces the risk of reaction to almost none.

I only just made contact. I know of a little girl who looks like S and 2 boys and a girl who look like O. A was conceived with a friend, so I know his son, too.

Amanda, thanks. His mama said, "Oh, so he got the gene from both sides?" LOL. I thought they just got rid of Aspergers diagnosis all together? And group hugs are way ickier than regular hugs. Yeesh.

Ash, thank you, that's what my logical brain said, too. You can't get divored while pregnant in CA or OH, either.  I wasn't worried about a reaction until I heard that at least one half sib had had a reaction. A bad reaction. Twice.

Yes.  If I was ever involved in a group hug that didn't consist of people that came out of my vagina I would probably have a panic attack.

No, that's just for the sticker. It used to be $200-300 a year, due on your birthday. They changed it so that the tag fee for the life of the car is rolled into the purchase price. I didn't know we still had to pay for a new sticker. We still have to pay $250 ish a year on the van.

They did with the new DSM. They also loosened the criteria to current or ever. So you can get a dx based on past behavior. But I'm pretty sure the clinicians who treat the high-functioning kids are dropping Aspergers overnight. And I'm also pretty sure that Aspies aren't jumping the gun to call themselves autistic!

My rule of thumb is that if I didn't birth you or am not sleeping with you I don't want to hug you. I'd say the vagina rule can encompass that.

I'm sorry you're concerned, Sara. I agree with what everyone else has said. If he's been functioning just fine up to this point, I'm sure he's going to be just fine in the future! Aren't ASDs noticeable and diagnosed most often between 2-5 these days? Even 5 would be pretty late by today's standards. O is much older, right?

Our tags here are $75. Bleh. We still have to pass emissions tests, too, depending on where we live and the age of your car... which counts me in. :-P Oh, and about splitting up parts of vaccines, I just wanted to contribute that the MMR vaccine is one that isn't available broken up at the moment. At least, that's what I read everywhere I looked this year. I think the consensus is that Merck wasn't making enough money by separating those vaccines so they only sell it combined right now. I'd like to vaccinate Sora for rubella eventually but am not concerned about measles or mumps, nor am I comfortable vaccinating her with the combined MMR, so I guess I'm waiting for a glimmer of hope the individuals will be available at some point... Anyone else know any updates on this?

Joanie, thanks. He's 10. He's fine. A little geeky and stim-y still. Until recently people were always trying to Dx him, tho. He and I are birds of a feather except that I don't make explosion noises while I pace.

Amanda, I'm gonna go with you have way bigger hug refusal than I do. I'm fine with hugging old ladies and sad people.

I'm going to clarify that that is my group hug rule. Better? I talk a tough game, but I think my hugging wall has come down some. Also, I wanted an excuse to write vagina... Ash can't have all the fun.

I will ask next time one of my kids goes in.  None of those are something I would give my kids at this time, so I have no idea if they split them.  I know that there are naturopathic versions of these vaccines without chemicals, though.

Bummer, if you ever threatened to hug me again, I could have just yelled "vagina rule!" and escaped. Oh well. I guess since you're an old lady, I'd survive.

Also, remember the hand I hurt last week? Now that the swelling is mostly gone, it hurts pretty good again. Sheesh.

I heard about these crazy places, where these professionals in coats work...and they can take picture of the INSIDE OF YOUR BODY *gasp* and make sure everything is still ok in there.  Strap on your tin foil hat and give it a try, lady!

What is this place you speak of?! Watch out, Sara, they sound like the same people who promote flouride. *runs*
post #1136 of 1502
J/k j/k...... I'm not THAT much of a nut. :)
Well it quit hurting, so I figured it was fine. It's in a weird place on the back of my hand, so moving it is no problem but bumping it is.

Sara, I would offer you my tinfoil hat, but I wear it A LOT, sooo..  I'm glad your hand is okay.  I have a feeling that O is probably fine.  I personally would avoid vaccinations, but that's pretty much always my stance.  Cyan is also right on the line of having some sort of diagnosis.  He really doesn't understand some social aspects of life and has some pain/sensory issues (he gets hurt a lot!).  Often it works out in his favor, like he doesn't get his feelings hurt easily about social things.  I think that it's very common and just part of being a boy (or even human).

Registering a car in Cali is $$$, so we don't have one this year.  My mom has 2 cars, so we share when needed.  Generally it's not a problem, as this town is small and we don't need to drive much.

Today I did the final paperwork to sign Cyan up for private school.  We qualify for financial aid, so we are able to send him to a brand new private school this year.  It's a super small school, with very low classroom sizes and lots of cool extras.  Since this is their first year and they're trying to fill seats, they are giving a lot of tuition aid.  Win for us!  Another bonus is that it's 1/2 block away, so he can walk himself.  I'm a little irked that my IL's say that they can't afford to give a donation to the school right now.  They are currently paying for our health insurance, which we really didn't want, but can't afford to give any amount of donation to his school?  They make plenty of money, this is more of a slight towards us and the decisions that we're making this year.  :/  Both of my parents have found a way to help us out a bit.  It's even a tax deductible charitable donation!  It just makes me want to move to South America even more, so there, ha!  :)

If anyone is interested... this is one of the best articles I've read on gluten sensitivy to-date. It's noteworthy that roughly 30% of people with European ancestry carry predisposing genes for celiac disease/gluten intolerance. Genetic precursors don't appear to lead to the disease; rather, environmental/autoimmune triggers have to take place in conjunction with the genes. It also states that the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that infants start consuming gluten while still breastfeeding. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/opinion/sunday/what-really-causes-celiac-disease.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Hey ladies, just checking in. It's nap time at work so I get a little Internet time, yay! We moved all weekend of course and I am exhausted. Work has actually been a break today. But we made good headway, got all the furniture moved and day-to-day necessities, laundry done, kitchen organized, etc. Of course, all summer we've had very mild weather, but the weekend we move it gets hotter than hell outside. When we moved out of the old house and in with my parents in May, it snowed. We're just doomed with crappy moving weather. But the house is great! And the girls have done really well. We went ahead and put them in separate rooms and they have done fantastic with it. Greta immediately became a snotty, watery mess the first night. The renters who were in it before us had dogs in the house, so I am wondering if she's reacting to that. The whole house smells like dog. Ugh.

Internet is spotty at best at home right now, so I still won't be around much. I can sometimes get a weak signal from my neighbors, but only when I'm in bed. Weird. We'll get it rigged up soon.
