bdoody, I love that game (we call it "Tattoo Parlor")! I get to lay there and relax while DS is fully entertained for 10-45 minutes depending on the tattoo. Also a huge fan of "Doctor" and "Spa Day", both of which include pulling out lotions and stuff. In doctor we use strips of fabric for bandages and it usually turns into a mix between doctoring and carpentering, as he often pulls out the wrenches and screwdrivers and such! Oh, and a spray bottle with a drop of essential oil and a bunch of cool water in it.... heavenly on these summer days!
Jillgayle, I think I was about where you are with DS not too long ago. DH saw me get upset about something (probably something like getting repeatedly kicked in the back) and took DS out for a couple of hours. When they got home DH and I talked about it. I felt the same way, like DS was listening to DH and 'minding' him, and when I would try the same approach it didn't work. I was taking it REALLY personally! DH said something to the effect of, "Well, that's not working... for either of you." He then reminded me that 3yos (especially our sweet child ) don't want to suck or be assholes, just as I probably didn't want to be a bitch. And this is something I guess I needed to be reminded of (both sides of it). Since then, I have had a lot more patience and taken everything much more slowly. For instance, when I do get kicked or walloped I assume it was an accident or at least that he didn't intend to hurt me (and that already puts me in a better place than I was when I was taking it personally), then I say, "Let's try and figure out how you can play 'Wild Whomping Whompus' without walloping me (or Papa, or the dogs, or whoever). Should you do your whomping in the living room, or maybe if you only whomp pillows or things that are green..." Sometimes he is a little contrary, but I think that because I don't completely shut down and go into defense mode he doesn't lose his spirit either. Or at least it's not completely quashed by my raging hormones and wild mood swings! Really, I think not taking it personally is HUGE, and really hard to do sometimes too, but I feel so much better all around -you know, other than the aches and pains of pregnancy!
GBS negative here, heard this morning! Although that good news is a bit dampened by having to take one of our old dogs to the vet for a bloody lump on his penis (sorry TMI)... Our poor old guy is such a pain in the butt! He can never have regular doggy problems, it's always something horrendous, weird, gross, mysterious, and expensive! This one seems to fit the bill for all of the above!
Coffeebean...... hope all is going smoothly for you today!!!
