Hey all! We are on week 13 of my twin pregnancy and started interviewing doulas. We are planning a home birth, but obviously with twins there is a greater risk of transfer to a hospital. We think a doula will be wonderful to have at a home birth, but we mainly want one in case we end up at a hospital to help us avoid unnecessary interventions.
My question is this: for those that have used doulas before, what did you find most useful personality-wise? I assumed we would need a doula that can be mean if necessary, but the doula we just interviewed is soooo sweet. When I asked if she could be mean if she needed to be, she said she really can't, but that she's never had an issue with doctors/nurses not working with her. She said being sweet actually helps her out, because they don't feel like they are fighting her.
Do any of you have experience with a hard-headed doula or a sappy sweet doula as far as fighting interventions in a hospital? Which do you think is more effective? I know I'll have a hard battle with refusing an epi, etc with a twin birth in a hospital!
