~Weekly Chat Thread August 12th-18th~ - Page 4
Cardigan, I think the basil is like pineapple, spicy food, and all the other food related ways to start labor, not really going to do it unless your body is ready. It just helps keep your hope up. I just eat it in a normal quantity with my Italian food.
Sorry to hear about your cupboard, what a disaster!
LeighPF - My nipples always hurt a lot the first week or so even though my kids have had good latch. Lanisoh is a lifesaver for me.
cardigan - that's awful about the cabinets! Sounds like you are going the right route to get it taken care of.
Banana - Our landlord has also stated that he doesn't want an "army". We are only at two going on 3, but I fear if we live here long enough for #4 that he would want us to move. But really, what do they want us to do, store the extras in the shed? I hope you find something soon.
Obviously still pregnant but my kids are back and MIL is here to stay until after the baby comes so maybe with all the members of the nest present baby will make an entrance. Trying some home remedies with the pinkeye (raw apple cider vinegar and chamomile), but if it is still red after tomorrow I am breaking out the perscription I have.
Everything went ok at the hospital. Lots of waiting in an exam room, but they turned out the lights and there was a pillow on the bed, so I actually got some decent rest. All observations were great: only trace protein in urine, BP 92/60, FHR totally normal on monitor (and as much as I don't like unnecessary u/s, the baby's heartbeat was a soothing soundtrack for my almost-snooze), reflexes normal, no swelling, etc. So there's nothing obstetrically wrong (didn't think there was), and they're chalking the relentless, increasingly intense headache up to sleep deprivation (I've been up 2-3 hours in the night most nights and waking at 4:30-5:00). They gave me pain maids with codeine for when it gets bad and I need to sleep, and some actual sleeping tablets to help me get some rest before labor. I'm to take normal pain meds every 6 hours to keep the levels in my system up, and substitute the codeine as needed. So I've popped a movie on for the kids and shut myself into my bedroom for some darkness, quiet, and an opportunity to rest. Woot!
I've had sore nipples with some cracking and bleeding. I chalk it up to being lazy with her latch because I'm so used to nursing toddlers. I'm not used to these newbies! Our pediatrician prescribed me the Dr. Newman's APNO, but the visiting nurse thought coconut oil would work just as well. I'm happy to say both nipples have healed and the only pain I have now is when she initially latches. I'm just waiting for her mouth to get bigger. That makes everything easier.
Also, my baby is officially one week old!
I broke out the lanolin and put it on a few times and now they are much better. She has her days and nights quite mixed so she had a great nap for most of the day with little nursing breaks.
We had a good quiet day. Nap in the morning together after a herb bath and baby massage. My mum, husband and kids all went to the pool in the afternoon. C and I had a quiet afternoon on the porch with a few visitors from church for a little while and some quiet catching on on the internet. I had another friend drop by just before dinner for some porch visiting with her two week old.
Susan - glad Julia decided to stay put till full term!
It sounds like a lot of you are really ready to meet your babies.
I still feel badly that my little guys came a month early. I know I was doing everything I could to keep them in but it is still kind of painful. Our NICU stay was very traumatic even if they were healthy and doing well. It was so hard leaving them at the hospital every night but I couldn't get any sleep in their room and the alarms going off made me so nervous that they'd have to stay longer plus needed to spend some time with DD who had a really hard time with us being gone 15 hr days.
I'm pumping a ton. We are nursing a few times a day but they're still so bad at milk removal. I'm meeting weekly with an IBCLC. I have been able to increase my supply, though and power pumping is really helping.
DH and I are both really sleep deprived. I'm so thankful to have these little guys and I don't feel like complaining really, it's awesome to have them, but I was just thinking today how some blessings sure do come with extreme exhaustion!!
I still have 40 lbs to lose. DH is pretty thin so I outweigh him even now. Still have fluid to lose and my incision is a little infected too. Washing it 3x/day and putting antibiotic ointment on it per my NP.
Leigh- yummy! Glad the lanolin is helping!
Bdoody- coconut oil is a great idea! I'm glad you're getting some relief.
Calladona- podromal labor sounds seriously tiring! You're so upbeat though!
Crunchy- good luck with the girls home. How are they adjusting? I hope the pink eye is gone soon.
EA- so glad to hear everything went well!
Lotus-I hope the baby turns for you!
Afm: I'm feeling better. Thanks all. My friend checked out some houses today and they looked pretty great. We're filling out apps and hoping for the best. One is smaller but in a great little SF neighboorhood that's really walkable. The other is in a residential area that is a little more working class, but the house is huge and fantastic. There are some trade-offs with either, but both should be good. Wish me luck!
Banana - thank you for your support. I hope you find the right house. One of my dearest friends lives in the Bay area and it's just so beautiful out there. She delivered her 4th child this April and her nurse said she rarely gets 4th babies to deliver since most families are smaller in that area. I hope you find something that is just right and appropriate for your kids. Since I'm in the midwest there are plenty of larger families but I am really sorry you're having discrimination against your family size.
