Interviewing a midwife

Hey mamas,

I'm interviewing a midwife tomorrow who I have really high hopes for.  I've never done this before and need help thinking of questions, especially the less obvious ones I may not think to ask.  Any advice?

I found this: http://www.claremontmidwife.com/2011/10/50-questions-to-ask-a-midwife/

helpful when we interviewed our midwife. It's got some you might not think of, and some you might not need to ask.

That list that Violet linked to is actually really solid. I'd go with something like that. I'd want to know the nitty gritty about what kind of equipment she carries, what her standard practice is, her educational background and experience and certifications, etc. Also, I'd want to know about her general philosophy about birth.

Really, a big part of interviewing a midwife is also seeing if you click with her. I'd also go on your local tribe here at MDC and do a search on her name and see if other women have shared stories about their experiences with her, and also do a quick google.

Wow, great list! Thanks Violet! We were sad to find out our CNM midwife couldn't legally attend our breech homebirth last time, so I want to make sure I ask everything in advance this time around.

Great list, thanks Shying Violet!  I wound up asking many of these questions, and as you mentioned Mama Jen, focused on the goodness of fit between the two of us.  I think it's a go!  Thanks for your responses.
