Tell me everything about MaterniT21?

I'm curious what this community's experience with it is. Are your midwives offering it, even without AMA? Was it covered by insurance? Did anyone request it just for gender ID? Other comments?

I am not AMA and did it through my midwife. It was not covered by insurance. I did it for gender ID reasons. I thought it was really neat to know the baby's gender at 12 weeks!

I admit that's why I'm interested too. Would you mind sharing how much you paid for the test?

Not at all, but I can't remember...$250? $300? It was way back in February. I live in NYC so I suspect there was some urban up charging going on.

my insurance covered it. I was told they might not and that the max bill would be around $250 if I had to pay out of pocket. We decided to do it bc we declined the NT scan and other early screening, and thought the info offered by the test would be useful (I'm over 35, fwiw).

Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking forward to seeing what my midwives say about it, and my insurance.

I was AMA and my test was covered by insurance, but I still had an out of pocket bill close to $1K.  I called up Sequenom (the company that produces the test) and they reduced the bill to $235.

I did the Harmony, which is a similar test. I am 36 and my insurance, Humana, covered it 100%.

Wow, it sounds like its highly insurance dependent (why should I expect otherwise).

My midwife does it, and she said insurance has paid for it for all of her clients. Apparently the company has a policy that no individual will have to pay more than $250 out of pocket for it.

We're doing it both for gender and for trisomy screening.
