We adopted a little guy 21 months ago and I induced lactation and supplemented him at the breast until he weaned himself abruptly at 6 mints of age.
With this little one I nursed her right from the start, on demand at least every 2-3 hours round the clock. On day 3 of life she was down 12% in weight from birth and I had to start supplementing her with formula at the breast.
That night I was re-admitted to the hospital for pre-eclampsia and fluid overload. I spent the next four days in the hospital with my little one who slowly gained weight with supplementing at the breast....and I proceeded to lose 10 kilos in fluid!
I have pumped and pumped, only expressing up to 10mls at a time, I am taking domperidone, fenugreek, blessed thistle, along with two Chinese herbs, and still my milk is just not in.
All I've wanted for as long as I can remember, has been to be married, give birth and nurse my child. The most primitive of things after giving birth and I cannot seem to make enough milk to sustain her.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? Does the milk eventually come in? How long does it take? What else can I do to help my body make the milk my baby needs?
