Shared rooms for kids?

Thread Starter

We have four children.  As we are figuring out space in our new house, we are trying to decide whether it is best for the kids to each have their own room, or whether they should share. In our case, this would have three kids together, and one with a room of her own as she is the only girl and is significantly older than her siblings.  The youngest is still cosleeping, but will be transitioning out of our bed over the next few months.

The setup is three bedrooms upstairs with a central room connecting them and two bedrooms on the main floor.  Two rooms upstairs are equal in size, the other is the size of the other two combined. This also leaves us wondering where to set a room for the master bedroom.  It is an old house, and no one room really seems to be the master bedroom.

Help me decide where to put everyone- every time I try talking about it with my husband, his eyes glaze over and he nods at anything I say. whistling.gif

I would put the 3 boys in the big room, your daughter in one of the smaller ones, make the central adjoining room a family room/play room (if it's large enough), and put your bedroom either in the remaining upstairs room or on the main level, depending on how close you need to be to the boys at night.
