Core strength in an 8 year old

My son has gained a lot of upper body strength this past year. We worked on monkey bars and he takes swimming lessons. I also bought him a trampoline beginning of the summer.

He still has low-tone in his core.

Any ideas on a fun way to build his core? Anything we could do together?

Rock climbing. Check if there are any gyms or rec centers in your area that have a climbing wall and classes for kids. Climbing is perfect for developing core strength.

If you have a therapeutic riding centre in your area, horseback riding is excellent for developing core muscles.

Thank you...these are great ideas! We used to do riding, and we have a place nearby to do that, and a rock-climbing gym too.

Do you live near a lake?

My son has mild CP.  He is very high tone with a lot of strength but has trouble with his core muscles.  My daughter, who has epilepsy, is very low tone.

We bought stand-up paddle boards last year when they were eight, just for fun.  The side effect is their core strength has increased significantly...and they love being on the SUP's.

Also, their school had yoga instead of gym.  The yoga improved their core strength and balance.
