Either way though, you're only 40 +5 with an edd of 8/24. That's still totally in the range of normal. If you're having a hospital birth though, I'd always go with the later EDD. it will save you hastle in the end.
Due dates are just guess dates. I think it's less than 5% of babies that are born on it, so still being pregnant does not verify anything for sure. Ultrasound does not tell you the date of ovulation; it only estimates gestational age based on fetal measurements.
Yep! The only way to really know when you o'd is to chart or some women use OPKs. And like it's been said before, you don't know how long sperm survived, even if you have sex the day before you O, you don't know that it was a sperm from that encounter that fertilized your egg.
