My doctors are making me a nervous wreck about my two past shoulder dystocias . I'm officially due nov 27th . I think I'm due a bit sooner based on how I felt at different junctures . But with me consistently measuring first two weeks ahead and now 1 month ahead they're worrying about a big baby shoulder stick scenario and worrying me. Not so worried about a c- section as I am making the decision and it turns out to be either a wrong one or an unnecessary surgery . I never worried a bit with my other two . Guess its the difference between obs and midwives . So they want to do an ultrasound at 36 weeks to estimate size . It's just bothering me .

Hippymum - Thanks :) Talking here to you guys always reinforces the feeling that I know what I want, and I don't need to justify it to anyone. Not even to my husband or my doctor. I think I have pretty much covered all that. Being allowed to move around is my main concern, which I will tell my doctor. Then I'll simply refuse to get in bed unless I want to. For baby care I did specif: Breastfed with NO suplimenting, first hour spent with me, rooming in, no hep or vitamin k shot, and no circumcision.

SunnieP - I am sorry. :( that would bother me too.

Update on renal dilation:  We went in for ultrasound yesterday. They didn't get the results over to the OB in time for him to confirm or talk to us about it. BUT the ultrasound tech said it looked great to her. Didn't look dilated, and kidneys in good position. :)

She had me on my back so long that I got hot and dizzy though. She had me sit up and gave me a dougnut and apple juice. When they took my blood pressure it was low for the first time ever, and I felt like crap the rest of the day. However I feel good now, and am not worrying anymore.

She also confirmed that as of now baby is head down and facing back the way he should. At least for now. He's still wiggling a LOT.

And I got to see his face. It was hard to get because he likes to put his arms in the way and he was facing away. But I thought it was cool to see such a different after 8 weeks. You can see his eye! And a round cheek and pointed little chin. :)

I will definitely let my DH know my wishes but don't want to write them out on paper, I guess.

I think I have been having some lighter bh ctx too. Irritating especially if I don't realize it before I bend over to grab something.

Hippy- I don't think there is a wrong time to do anything you feel is leading your life in the right direction. Including adding more great titles to what you do already!

Sunnie I would be bothered too!   An U/S at 36 wks isn't going to tell them much. Half the time the weight/size they "guesstimate" is wrong anyway and puts undue worry on everyone.

Tiffa- good news!

My midwife doesn't recommend the GTT, but did ask me to monitor my BG levels at home for a couple days. I did it yesterday and my results seem odd to me, what do you guys think?

Fasting 75. (Looking online, 'normal' should be 70-100 or 70-85, depending on who you ask)
Breakfast 1hr 109. (Normal range is under 120 or only rise 40mg over fasting, so 115 for me)
Breakfast 2 hr 96. (Normal range is under 100 or ???)
Lunch 90 min 83
Dinner 1hr 61
Dinner 2 hr 84

My fasting and breakfast levels are in the normal range, but my dinner levels are so low. Today I only had two test strips left, so I checked my fasting level (75) and 1 hr after dinner (79). I didn't feel hypoglycemic or anything. I'm not sure whether to worry cause my levels are too low, or think I just have very even blood sugar which should be a good thing, right? I did email my midwife, but am of course too impatient to wait to hear back from her, so I thought I'd get some opinions here in the mean time...

I believe ultrasound weight estimates can be 2 lbs off in either direction. So I can save you a lot of hassle and tell you your baby will probably be between 6 and 10 lbs. that will be $200 please! Lol.

If you are worried about it, learn about the gaskin maneuver for shoulder dystocia. Basically move onto your hands and knees. That should get the baby's shoulders unstuck.

It can be done! I had my third baby in the hospital and I think a key is to not feel or look like a patient. Don't put on the gown, refuse an i.v. Even the hep lock. Stay out of the bed, though if you feel like taking a nap, do it! Just get up again when you wake up. If you are fully dressed and moving around, you will feel more in control and their treatment of you should reflect that. You don't have to ask for permission to walk around. Just do it. Find out how often they require monitoring (every 45-60 min probably) and just show up at your room at those times. You can stand and hold the monitor on, you don't 'have' to lay down for monitoring either. Sit in a chair if they give you grief about it. Don't be thrown if they keep asking you to rate your pain on a scale of 1-10. Lol. That one confused me. Idk, I'm in labor, they hurt sure, but I'm handling it fine. Pick a number and just repeat it every time they ask, don't think about it. Just say 4. eyesroll.gif

Tiffa -that's great about the kidney us .
Vaquit- good advice about not looking like a patient . I'm going to go for alot if those ideas .

We did the gaskin move with my daughter and she "popped " out . But a little voice in my head keeps asking now - what if she hadn't .

I'm still debating writing a birth plan . I just feel like hospital staff will not read it .

Thanks for the new thread!

I had an appt. with my midwife yesterday. I was surprised I have not gained any weight in the last month! I'm still at 14lbs gained. She wasn't worried because baby is measuring on track and has certainly gotten bigger (measuring 29 at 28w3d). If I'm not gaining by my next appt. we'll have to make a plan to increase my calorie intake so I'm supposed to be conscious of that this month. I'll get my blood work results tomorrow. This is the wiggliest baby ever. She cannot manage to ever stay still long enough for us to listen to her. Oh well, at least I know she's alive in there. Oh how I wish I could preserve my nice tan belly until she is born...

Baby showers: Ours is right before 33wks. Seemed like a good time to have it to me. My SIL is helping plan everything. DS' birthday is the beginning of Nov. and I want to have a little party for him so I wanted the 2 parties spaced out a little.

Tiffa-that's great about the kidney.  And I second what Vaquita said-what you want can be done in a hospital, you have to be firm about it, so good to have a back up person to enforce.

Sunnie-They can be so off on weight.  Sounds like they are going to push for a csec, tell you your baby is way to big to deliver....Are you worried this time because they are worried and making you stress over it?  I guess, what's the difference over no worry the previous times vs now-new ob? New mw?

Sila-my mw is the same about weight.  I'm gaining slow now, but gaining.  I have almost no appetite so make sure I eat at least every 4 hours-something, a smoothie, some fruit/veggie, small salad.  What I don't do is count my calories, because it would be low and stress me out.  I'm working to get in more protein.  Are you sure they didn't record wrong?  The baby would have gained some weight + more fluid so there should be at least a 1# gain for the month??

Vaquita-? about the levels.  If you don't eat sugar/much of it, your levels will be lower I would guess.  Or normal, pending point of view :)

Hippy - The only time I weigh myself is at her office. Last month I was 151.4, yesterday I was 151.0. She had me go in and weigh myself again and then it said 150.5 after peed so that didn't work. It could be her scale. DH weighed himself and he had gained a couple pounds though so I'm not sure lol. My belly measures on track and palpates nicely so she wasn't worried about my fluid levels. It's been quite hot around here so I've been trying to drink extra and remind myself to eat even if I don't necessarily feel like it. I definitely don't restrict calories. I seem to remember the same thing happening with DS to. My weight gained kind of stalled for a while but picked up at the end. I'll just keep trying to focus on higher calorie snacks and meals (but lighter foods and fruit are so good when it's hot!). I'm not worried.

I just hit 139.3, so #23.  I don't worry about it, because in one week, pending what I eat, it can change by 3#, even non pregnant.  My girl friends and I joke that we never weigh in the day after girls night.  Especially if we have tortilla chips and guac/salsa :)  I haven't been walking as much and need to get back into routine, so I'll probably lose a few # just by that activity, even though I'll still be eating the same.

I was up 14 lbs at 27 weeks and 17 lbs at my 30 wk visit but totally agree Hippy, my weight can easily fluctuate by 5 or more lbs in a day depending on what I've eaten or when in the day I am weighed.

So far things have stayed fairly calm here, still contracting with periods of rather intense ctx 3-5 min apart but not worsening and they eventually slow down. They worry me most when they wake me at night. Really trying to breathe through them, practicing my Hypnobirthing techniques, and just relax. So much easier said than done! The hardest part for me is not knowing now when I should actually be alarmed. I guess I'll just know.

Hope everyone had a peaceful weekend!!

Hugs SunnieP. I hope you find a solution you are comfortable with. It stinks that your provider has made you so nervous.

Granite I'm using Hypnobirthing. My partner and I attended 5 classes and our instructor will be our doula. I think both programs have very similar philosophies. I just love our classes ane materials and can say the relaxation and visualization techniques were very helpful last weekend with our preterm labor scare. I was really able to focus and relax my body while going deep within myself.

Tiffa Omg, such great news! Even if it isn't official and coming from your OB, I'm doing a happy dance for you!

My best friend is hosting a baby shower for me in 3 weeks, so i'll be 34+ weeks. Really looking forward to it and baby staying put until at least 36 weeks!

Sparkle-did they say if there were any cervix changes?  Partial bed rest?  My mw just said I could up my magnesium and when stool got too soft to back off it.  They're not back to waking me like before, but it seems like they'll be back in the next month.

I need to check out the hypnobirthing.

Well, I am trying not to eat too much grains and sugar, but I had made my to die for brownies the night before, so that day each of my meat and veggie meals were followed up with a brownie and a glass of milk! So it was hardly a low sugar day. I heard bak from my midwife, she did question had I eaten enough that day. But I had a hungry day and had eaten 3000 calories and 200g of carbs that day, so definitely enough, lol. So she says my numbers are good. So I will stop worrying.

Vaquita-that's good.  Have you tried replacing white sugar with cane/palm sugar?  It's much more level and doesn't mess with your sugar, and a 1:1 replacement.  Takes a little while longer to dissolve but I think worth it.  I use that or honey, pending what I'm making.

Sparkle-do you have they hypnobirthing book?  I saw this and sent it to Uriver, but if your little one is low, it might help?  It's on the Birth Bliss web.

Polar Bear Position – Spend time (a lot of time) in the polar bear position – see picture to the right. This will

take pressure off your cervix. I personally know a woman who had early surges and cervical change and her cervix actually closed again due to the polar bear position.  (There is a picture of this position in the Hypnobirthing textbook near the back about page 260 at the end of the section on birth positions.)  It’s a position that moves baby closer to your lungs and away from the cervix.  Spend some time (15 minutes x 4 times a day)  in this position every day.

Thanks guys!

Tiffa - Your little one is a cutie! I can't believe it's been almost 10 wks since we got to see our baby girl and only about 10ish more until we will see her on the outside!

Sparkle - Glad all seems well for now! I love the Hypnobirthing stuff.

So what do you guys think-cupcakes or cake at a baby shower?  The one I went to, not everyone had cake, there were some cookies to munch on for an alternate sweet.  There was a lot of cake left over.  I'm thinking cupcakes would be easy to send w/ people at least, but I'm going to make pumpkin pie tarts for variety in case some one doesn't want cake/cupcake.  http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cdn.cakecentral.com/7/71/900x900px-LL-7142ef0b_modulescopperminealbumsuserpics64730Fall_Baby_Shower.jpeg&imgrefurl=http://cakecentral.com/g/i/1277415/the-october-baby-shower-was-all-done-in-a-fall-theme-pumpkins-are-solid-chocolate-made-in-a-truffle-pan-mold-spice-cake-with-all-cream-cheese-frosting-mom-to-be-loved-the-cake-it-was-my-first-attempt-with-cream-cheese-frosting-but-i-was/&h=676&w=900&sz=227&tbnid=evIbKonu0Gs5XM:&tbnh=93&tbnw=124&zoom=1&usg=__n6SHcuuR6QRgawxjiYgNb9RmJNk=&docid=oWjtvzj9O4tOoM&sa=X&ei=1wAuUuGJI8TurQHC5IGgCg&ved=0CDAQ9QEwAQ&dur=477

or cupcakes-they look so fun, so many ideas.  There were a lot of cake ideas too.

or instead of/in addition to toppers, little candy pumpkins on top of some

Either way I'm thinking to make spice or carrot cake/cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Seemed easy enough.

I'm lost on favors.  I've thought of hot cocoa mix & lip glosses (my friend makes awesome natural ones).  That's it.  I'm such a non party planner for things like that or baby shower games.  I love to decorate and found how to make the tissue paper flowers to hang up.  Etsy has some fall shower kits you download then print on paper you want.  I like this one http://www.etsy.com/listing/160169806/autumn-party-printable-set-baby-shower?ref=sr_gallery_11&ga_search_query=autumn+baby+shower+decorations&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_ref=auto3&ga_search_type=all

Is anyone doing a Halloween, fall or even Thanksgiving theme?  I feel like I need to get my rear in gear because the month is going to go quick and would like to have decorations and stuff made by the start of Oct so I don't have to worry about it.

Hippy I have checked out those positions in the book! Thanks for the info :) That's a really great idea. I've been doing the inversions recommended on the spinning babies site and I do think he's turned back to head down along my right side (where he was before this whole fiasco began). I find it really fascinating that he moved into a transverse position. I am wondering if it was about the monitoring (which he has clearly shown he does not care for) or if it was otherwise self protective (ie. removing a presenting part from near my cervix thus preventing dilation with the ctxs). shrug.gif Or could just be entirely coincidence.  Currently, I do not believe I am dilated at all. I was not when I left the hospital. MW said my external os was stretchy (which is why the resident who first examined me thought I was 3cm dilated with bulging membranes) but that the internal os was not at all dilated when I was discharged last Tuesday. I am seeing her in the office on Thursday. Will update when I am seen! I am on a modified bedrest - I can get up to shower once a day, go to the bathroom and such but I am mostly to stay sitting or laying down and "take it easy." It's all just so frustrating. I am very grateful that I am stable and that he seems to tolerating everything well but it is hard to relax and be positive when the ctxs come and go so frequently, especially the nighttime ones. And even with lots of love and support, which I do have and I am SO, SO grateful for that as well, it just frankly stinks. One day at a time!!

I vote cupcakes but I am always partial to them. Both are adorable! Love the idea of spice cake with cr cheese frosting. My very favorite cake is a spiced zucchini cake with crystalized ginger and a cream cheese frosting. People always look skeptical when I say zucchini cake but are immediately won over once they've tasted it :yum And I like the lip gloss favor idea, FUN!

SIla, my little guy is also a major mover and wiggler. I thought my DD was a mover but she was nothing like this little boy!! He is a constant ball of motion in there :bgbounce
