Sunday night, I went into the ER after having severe pains in my left leg and some swelling, since Saturday afternoon. They dismissed me saying I had a significant UTI (I had no symptoms) and that I had sciatica. Now, I've had sciatica with all 5 other PGcies and sometimes not PG. I've had severe sciatica. This was NOT the same thing. Nor did it get better with rest and heat.
The next day (labor day) we went to my parents to barbeque. I was in a LOT of pain that morning, couldn't walk without crying. Sat around at my parents. Got up and said I was going home (we live across the street) to lay down. My mom told me to go get in her tub and soak my leg with some epsom salt to see if it would relieve it some. I half cried/screamed to the bath and while getting in. I couldn't get down into it. Finally did, she saw the swelling which was getting bad and some slight purplish discoloration. She said I def needed to go back and tell them it's worse and they need to check more. Got out of the bath and DH took me back to the same ER to get re-checked.
The 1st time we were there, they did an U/S on my leg to check for DVT. Said it was clear, no clots. They re-did it the second time we came and the tech immediately saw extensive clotting. From my groin to my knee. ER Dr came and said I had DVT and they were admitting me. I got home last night. My leg is still swollen and hurts/gets worse when I walk on it. I have been resting all day and only get up for the bathroom. They put me on heparin shots twice daily until 2 weeks after delivery. I also now have to see a high risk OB and an MFM, frequently for monitoring. My heart was set on another home birth. I was devastated about that. Still am. But obviously I am where I need to be and thankful they caught it. DH was very upset that they missed it. TWO people missed it the first night. The tech and the person that reads the reports. OH, and the OB that was assigned to me at the hospital said my urine culture came back negative. I didn't have a UTI at all. They had me on freaking antibiotics for nothing. Grrrrrrrrrr. 2 misdiagnoses.
They did scan the baby and everything looked great. I'm not looking forward to more scans and higher monitoring. And they also said the birth may be scheduled as they have to take me off the blood thinners for a certain amount of time so I have no bleeding issues with birth.
