Wrap or ergo?
We carried both of our newborns in wraps (woven, like Didymos, and we have a Moby wrap) and ring slings. I really like the wraps for little ones, it's very easy to distribute the weight over your whole back and everyone stays close and cosy. But if we were doing a lot of in-and-out (like, running errands, so baby had to get in and out of the car several times), then I preferred the ring sling. Once I got the baby wrapped, I wanted her to stay wrapped, you know?
I've been told that the Ergo insert is really hot and that you can just roll up a towel or swaddle underneath them so they're higher up. I've never tried it though and will probably stick with my Maya sling. It was great with my newborn last time. My wrap was too complicated and time consuming for my extremely fussy baby.
Not only is every baby different, but mama's preferences are, too! :) Personally, I have both. I prefer my mobywrap for newborns- for going to the park w/ my other kids, grocery shopping, etc. For me, it's a more comfy, snuggled fit. Once they have a little more control of their bodies, I really love my ergo. I have had mine for 6 years, and I've used it for 3 kids. I still use it for my little guy (who just turned 2) for longer hikes or times when I don't want to chase him (like his sister's dance class at naptime). Not sure how much longer I'll be able to wear him, though!
If you go w/ a wrap, learning how to use it just takes a little practice! Watch you tube videos (I *wish* those were around when I had my first! I had a ring sling given to my by a friend and I gave it away because I wasn't comfortable...it turns out I was using it WRONG. And it turns out I love ring slings too.). Totally rambling now! Anyways, HTH!!!!
I loved my wraps so very much. I started wrapping my first on my back at 3 months...you can't do that wit anything else but a woven. I love the ergo now though, for my 28lb toddler. It's great for grocery trips and when it's raining and I don't want to wrap in the wet. I also love love love the ring sling for a newborn/infant. There's nothing like nursing through a grocery store trip and having NO ONE be the wiser.
I have both. The moby wrap worked great when they were newborns and the ergo works great once they are able to support their own head better and as they get heavier they are more difficult to put in the wrap. I had the baby insert for my ergo, but the kids never looked comfortable in it and I wasn't able to move as freely as I was with the wrap.
I really like the Ergo for older babies but for noobs, I like a sling or a wrap. Partly because it's so snuggly and partly because it feels so luxurious. But if you can only get one, I'd probably just get the ergo. Although, I can still tote my 4yo in my long woven wrap! She's only 33lbs tho.
I used the ring sling first when he was about 5 days old. I started to use the wrap when he was about 2 months old, and that was great for wearing him for hours while i did stuff.around the house. But I never got the hang of any hold other than front wrap.cross.carry. I loved the ergo for long walks and hiking. It was nice to have options to play with.
Of all 3 the ergo still gets used at least once a week with my now 28 lb 2 year old.
Would be good to have a brief illustrated explanation to me as a dummy- 1st time mommy
...Manducca? Ring Sling? Maya sling? Pouch Slings? Ktan?
WAHM stretchy wraps vs. Woven wraps?
Asian baby carriers? Chunei, Mei Tai ? Didymos?...
- Oh my head feels dizzy already! Hope someone will explain how they look and what's the main difference between all these options!
